Part 19:

Pulling her hands to himself, he naughtily voiced to lighten the situation, he pecked her knuckles, "ek aur catch me if you can game ho jaaye"

Aisha smiled and looked away shyly, "ab usski koyi zaroorat nahi hai….kyun ki…I know aap hi jeethenge aur main haar jaavungi……."

Sameer: bina khele hi haar maan li tumne, huh?

Aisha: [looking into his eyes intently and as if in a trance] haan kyun ki aapse haarna mujhe manzoor hai Sameer…..

Both looked at each other and the eyes met turning the night into a magical one almost instantly!

Sameer was lost in her when she pulled his hands and kissed it "thanks Sameer…..mujhe samajhne keliye…mere haalaat ko samajhne keliye…"

Sameer snapped out and smiled assuring her that he will always be by her side…..

As if suddenly remembering something, he speaks up, "Inn sab baaton mein toh main ek cheez bhool hi gaya…"

Aisha enquires, "kya?"

He frees her hand and pulls out a box from his pocket….."yeh ring….socha tha ke jab tum haan kahogi tab pehenaa dhoonga…..par ab…"

She didn't let him complete that….she held out her fingers to his side and voices out, "pehena dijiye….."

When he looks at her doubtfully as if to reconfirm, "maine kahaa tha na…..shaadi jab bhi hogi woh sirf aapse hogi Sameer……."

Sameer smiles and happily takes out the ring and slips it into her finger and kisses it……

She pulls back her hands and looks at the ring and kisses it too while he voices gently, "ring pasand aaya"

She nods, "haan…its beautiful Sameer….aaj mere liye bohat khaas din hai……a day which I will cherish forever……."

A long moment of silence when both try to relish it fully…..

Sameer decides to end the silence chuckling and voices naughtily, "agar itna khaas din hai toh mujhe bhi kuch gift milne chahiye na?"

Aisha looked at him and enquires innocently, "ab main kya gift deh sakthi hoom??…..I never knew that you are going to propose…agar patha hota toh pakka kuch na kuch gift le aathi…"

Sameer: mujhe jo chahiye woh tum ab bhi deh sakthi ho Aisha…..

Aisha:[realizing what he was asking as a gift] aaj aap kuch bhi maang sakthe ho…zaroor milega…..

Sameer: hmmm….ok…..filhaal ek good night kiss hi deh dho…..usi se kaam chalaa loonga….

Aisha: bas itna sa gift?? Ok…..

Sameer: [before she leans, he adds] nahi yeh mera gift nahi….this is something I can rightfully get from you anytime Aisha…..gift toh baaki hai…..main jab chaahoom tumse le saktha hoom….I will keep it pending for now!

[Saying that he points his cheeks to her….Aisha rolls her eyes and then mutters a "Ok"]

She leans to his side and pecks his cheeks voicing "good night Sameer"

Sameer grins and replies "good night Aisha…"

They part on that note for the day after a few more seconds of not wanting to go away from each other…..

A few days pass by…..Aisha could see minor and subtle changes in the cold attitude of Sameer towards Arjun but even then, it appeared a long long way to go……..And the major hurdle being the hot cop himself on the other side…..

Arjun had built a huge strong wall, a barrier around himself……breaking it was tough……and when it came to the egos and stubbornness, both of them weren't any less either…..

Aisha knew that she had to step in at some point and try to break the barrier or atleast soften it a bit…..else the task was impossible because she knew well that there was a limit beyond which she couldn't force Sameer as well……

One early morning…..a case from a remote village outside the city limits of Pune comes to ETF……its about a boy missing and the villagers claim it to be the work of a ghost which haunts an old and abandoned mansion…..

Several teams had been there before when few other people went missing after going into the mansion but none of the teams were able to crack the mystery so far…

All had returned back fearing the unknown and had concluded it as the work of a girl's spirit….the spirit of a girl who had died an unnatural death….

So ETF is commissioned to unravel the mystery…..

As if destiny had planned something already and as if to grand Aisha's wish, Arjun and Aisha end up travelling together as the rest of the team had already left by the first flight…….

Aisha was waiting for such an opportunity to talk to him…..

Arjun, on the otherhand was indeed wanting to talk to her and find out about his friend but his ego and attitude stopped him……..He couldn't talk to Sameer directly neither could he talk to Aisha about it……

Aisha made things easy by making the first move…….she could sense what Arjun had in his mind and just tried to get him to speak, "Arjun sir, kya aap mujhse kuch poochna chahthe hai?"

Arjun turned to her and raised his eyebrows and replied, "case ke baare mein?"

Aisha chuckled at his pretence, "nahi….case ke baare mein aapko sab patha hoga….phir mujhse kya poochenge??

Arjun: toh phir kis baare mein?

Aisha didn't reply for a long moment……she waited for him to come out with it but Arjun being Arjun, he never spoke up…..He brushed it aside like he always did and continued driving…..

When Aisha realized that the task she has taken up was the toughest and she needed extreme patience and a bit of letting go of her own ego, she spoke up on her own not waiting for him to ask, "kya hum thodi dher keliye dhost bann sakthe hai?"

Arjun turned to her side a little stunned by her question, but he didn't reply, she continued, "woh kya hai na, baat karne mein aasaani hogi! Dhoston ke beech formality nahi hoti, right?"

She could see sarcasm spilling in the hot cop's ever blank face……but his silence never ceased……she wasn't surprised by that because that was exactly what she expected from him…….Plain silence and the fact that he didn't say anything against her suggestion to become friends was more than an encouragement for her to go on……She was happy…..she smiled to herself for the success in the first step towards Mission Arjun-Sam Reunion!!

She added,"maine waqt maanga hai Sameer se"

That undid his determination and broke his silence as well…..

He chided her "Waqt?? Rathod ko judge karne keliye…..[she was silent while he added]chaahe jahaan bhi dhoondlo par usse accha life partner milega nahi….."

She smiled at that……"Friends and that too to an extent that despite being away from each other, they never give up the other"…These friends are made of a different metal altogether and she had rightly judged it also……Now it seemed a less farfetched task to unite them!

She replied with a grin, "maine waqt unne judge karne nahi maanga hai…..I want to gift him something very unique when I say yes to him…..usi gift keliye waqt maanga hai…."

He didn't reply…..perhaps he felt that it was more a personal matter of the couple and didn't want to comment on it……but she continued speaking, "maine mehsoos kiya hai ke Sameer ko ek life partner se zyaadha…I mean life partner ke pehle ek friend ki zaroorat hai…..

[Arjun turns to her side at that with a big question on his face as if he didn't know where she was heading to….Aisha answers his unvoiced question] unnke khoye hua friendship lautaana chahthi hoom! Unnke best friend unne gift karna chahthi hoom…..That's the best gift I can ever give him"

A faint smile or rather a sarcastic grin seemed to creep up his lips but he controlled it to the maximum, when she asked her final question, "kya iss mein aap meri help karenge?"

A long silence prevails as if a signal to a upcoming storm or was it something else….well Aisha wasn't sure of it but she waited for his reply anxiously……

Arjun: [finally replying from his heart, something which she was hoping for too] Aisha, dhosti ya pyar, dono hi khaanch ke tarah hai……ek baar toot gayi toh kitna bhi jodhne ki khoshish karoge, pehle jaisa kabhi nahi banega……. daraaar toh rahega hi, usske saath saath khaanch ka tukde se jodhne waale ka haat bhi khatt jaayega……[pauses for a while and shakes his head as if disapproving Aisha's wishes to reunite them] jo kaam impossible hai, usse karne ki khoshish matth karo……tumaare hi nuksaan hoga…..[a long moment of silence later, he adds in his trademark style] Samjhi ya Samjhaavum?

Aisha didn't reply to that….she knew it already that it wasn't easy to cajole him…..……and replying to this wasn't easy either…….

Aisha's mind voice: agar aap dono ziddhi hai toh main bhi kuch kam nahi hoom……aap se mooh se Rathod ke jagah Sam aur Aisha ke jagah bhabhi nahi bhulwaaya toh mere naam bhi Aisha Kapoor nahi…..usske baadh hi Mrs Aisha Sameer Dhaamsingh Rathod banungi! That's a promise!

She grinned as she made that vow to herself……he wondered why she fell silent suddenly and he also noticed her grin…..but he ignored that conveniently……Some things were better off when left unclarified and silence was the best treatment as well!

Rest of the journey was silent and calm but there was a storm of sorts triggered off in both minds…..
