Hey everyone!
Ive decided to open p a discussion so the section gets more active.
Heres the first discussion we will have from now till the end of next week.

Is it right for a widow to be treated as someone who is unlucky and as someone who has no right to live the way she wants?
Is it so wrong and shameful for a widow to have fallen in love once again?
What violation of tradition has a person done by losing her husband that she gets treated so cruelly in the name of tradition?
Is it right for a widow to be punished in such an unhuman manner just because she is in love?
In your opinion, does a widow have the right to go on with her life or do you support tradition which says that widows have no right to celebrate life and be given a second chance?
Is Ammaji right in her proclamations against Alaknanda?
If you were in Alaknanda's place, what would you do?
In today's world, is itr proper to stick to such age-old traditions or is it proper to conform those traditions and modify them to suit today's world?

Okay so this is our first DOTW!
Have fun everyone!
And do ot forget that this is all healthy arguments so no personal attacks and no profuse language!
Have fun!!😃

Ill be posting my views tomorrow. Its late night here and im very tired!

Very goog questions for discussions. I totally support a widow getting remarried. I think it is cruel, the life that Alak is leading. I find it strange how most cruel traditions are meant for women. If a person is given a second chance in life i think they should take that chance. I know someone who was a widow and she remarried a man who also lost his wife and they are very happily married and they got married when their kids were at marriage age.

mmmm... intersting. As per the show "Solha singar," I think Alaknanda should have the right to marry Shantanu since they both were in love way before in life when they were young but destiny played its role and they got separated. Alaks hubby was not a good man as he used to seek another woman and now he is dead and also shantanu's wife is no more. So, if they want to marry each other, then they should go ahead and do it.

However, the society we live in, depending upon the mentality of people, this might be considered an offence and is not looked upon with enthusiam when a widow wants to get remarried. The sitauation would be diffrent for a male. I think it depends on how people view the situation and what values and traditions they hold.

Me ==> I think the should get remarried 😃

No human being deserves to treated badly. Even more so in this case. She is the one who is suffering because of the death of her husband ( whether he deserved her is another story) and now she is treated badly by her M-I-L. Saas-Bahu soty again?

I think widow remarriage, should depend on the widow's own choice. If a widow is happy not remarrying, then that is her choice, but if she wants to remarry it's also her choice.

Keeping Alaka in mind, I think it's perfectly alright for her to remarry. Just because her husband passed away, doesn't mean she has to kill her happiness and darken her life into isolation.

Especially since her husband wasn't loyal to her. It seems like everyone in the family didn't care about their son's extra marital affair and the dishonourment to Alaka, yet despite her being a widow, they object to even a hint of a smile on her face. That's a double standard.

Since, today men and women are almost equal in India, these ancestral traditions need a biting change for the betterment of society. And it's not because today's times have changed, if even they had not, women should be respected. If a widower can remarry as many times, do whatever he pleases to do, then a widow should be given the right to choose the path of her life.

Love is uncontrollable, and a widow has full right to marry another man if she loves him!

This is what I like about Solah Singaar, shows progression in an unconventional way!

Keep smiling...
Love

Oh I'm all for remarriage if the widow wants it. Just because someone has died doesn't mean that their other halves stop living. Its not expected of men, then why should women have to follow such an archiac tradition? Life goes on and people should accept this. Being alone is not easiest thing, esp when you are relatively young and have ur whole life ahead of you. The world is too full of colors to be confined to black n white...

Traditions are good in their own place, but stagnating does not get society anywhere. Rather people and traditions to adapt to the changing times. Of course the issue of widow remarriage is one which should have been handled the same way over the ages- women who have lost their husbands should be given a chance to live again, should have a right to their happiness...

In this case esp, Alak should definitely move on wit life. Who is she in mourning for? The husband who was never truly hers? Love doesn't come knocking often, one should accept it and cherish it when it does...

it is a good list of questions.....
i go with meera's feeling of getting her mom married again.Alak didnt get the love she deserved from her husband... when she knows that shanthanu loves her the way a wife needs to be y cant she get remarried....

As far Ammaji is concerned she is struck with old vichars.... With change in time she has to change.....
