I started following this show because of VD and DD, both of whom I had loved in their previous shows. They had such good chemistry with their previous co-stars that I was also interested to see how they do together. Also, I was misled by the promo- when they showed a young girl reaching the top and not being able to recognize herself any more, I expected may be a story along the lines of Fashion or Page Three, suitable toned down for a television audience. I was wrong. The show I ended up watching was in fact along very familiar lines ( even though the beginning with Padmini running away was very promising):
Boy-Girl hate each other in the beginning? Done to death I don't feel like working my brain to remember all those names.
Forced marriage? Typical Mills & Boons situation and been done so recently I don't need to give examples. Also, marriages where husbands want to teach wives lessons-
Guy is an absolute jerk to the girl?

However, I still got hooked because I loved the actors. But then, I was disturbed by the very beginning by RK's characterization. And more than his characterization, I was disturbed by what was happening in this forum. I get people wanted RK-Madhu pairing, but we knew then that was going to happen- was there any reason to bash Mukund's character (and this was before he rejected Madhu)? Mukund was bashed for one reason only- and that was he was not RK. And that has been the trend in this forum forever- if you are not RK or with RK, may you rot in hell forever. Everything RK does is acceptable, even admirable- be it hitting a guy and then not even helping him, dragging someone against their will to his house when he feels like- I figure people want a dark love story, but I don't get why it is not allowed to identify what is wrong as wrong and why, just because you may love an actor or character, whatever he does is supposed to be right.
Handcuffing someone is awesome, monitoring who your spouse talks to is lovely, everything about this guy is perfect.

I remember early in the story, when RK dragged Madhu to her critically ill father and gloated to him how he had married her, Madhu lashed out at him when they returned- she said "Tum insaan nehi, janwar ho".
Next day, there was this great long post titled with the dialogue and it went along the lines of "what right do we have to judge who knows what tragedy happened in his childhood...jiska jism ka kimat laga hua hai- how can you understand what goes inside his heart?"- It was in short a somber memorial for all the hardships RK supposedly had to undergo- and his past was not even revealed in the show. Yesterday and day before, I saw quite a few posts feeling sorry for RK, and asking Madhu to go away and do an ehsaan on RK (really? then why were they all jumping with joy when he dragged her back to his life?). What RK does is because of his untold sorrows. What anyone else does...well, how dare Madhu want to take revenge and not mend him lovingly?
Here are a few viewpoints:
Madhu must mend RK with love?- my Q., why? Because she is a girl? Or because she is not RK? And how many times must she mend him with love?
RK does not need to mend anyway, he is great the way he is, so let him keep abusing, dragging, breaking stuff, we will applaud because it is the great RK doing it.
RK CAN NOT mend. Wow, something to be proud of. Let him continue ruining lives. More applause.
The one reason everyone gives is: RK is DIFFERENT. This show is HATKE. How, pray? Leads hate each other, male lead is a jerk, forced marriage...check list above. What else have we got? Sceming bhabis, confused saas...er, every other show? Filmy background? Really? An industry that apparently revolves around one man, who shoots the most cliched scenes, heroines without personality, directors as hero's lapdogs...this is a story about the film world?

The only time I sort of liked RK was when they were falling in love, and he faked that too. Hero doesn't need to be perfect, he may have flaws. But wrongs don't become rights overnight. Who says a different love story has to involve hero abusing heroine everyday?
Boy abusing Girl is the most stereotypical Mills&Boons style supposed love story. And RK will put many M&B hero to shame. And I find nothing awesome in his character.

So my question, how is this show different?
And before you ask me why I am here:
a. Like I said, I followed the show from the beginning, so I think I have the right to say things.
b. Don't like don't watch- all right, but I still have the right to say why I don't like it- this is a show aired on public tv, so it should be equally open to praise and criticism. Deal with it.
c. Even if I'm not a fan, I'm interested in popular culture and its effect, so yes I can comment here. And you may disagree with me, civilly, logically.

Your Post is definitely a reality check to the CVs!!! 😆

What were we promised and what are we getting?

Through the initial promos, Makers said we are going to be shown the story of Madhubala, a young girl who is pushed into the world of glitz and glamour, ends up becoming a Superstar!!!
She is apparently suffocated with the pressure of Superstardom, and how is she gonna handle her life ahead??? 😛 - This was what the promos suggested with regard to the show's plot initially!!! 😳

But what are they showing in the show???

1. Pooja's and dining table dramas. 🥱
2. Masala Modak, Sargi and Kitchen Dramas. 🥱
3. Radhaji's illogical and boring gyaan. 🥱
4. Bittuji hopping to and fro into his boss's Room with a pair of mobile phones in his hands! 😆
5. Superstar yelling 'Pack up' most of the times in shoot 🤣
6. Superstar wrecking revenge against an innocent girl by back stabbing her in the name of Love. 😲
7. Public humiliation of Madhubala in every episode and that is romance!!! 🤢
8. Manhandling a girl, chaining her is junoonwala Romance 🤬
9. Making the male lead behave like a Mentally instable person and torture the female lead 😕
10. Women abuse 🤢

Yes, I have been watching the show from the beginning!

And the glorification of Evil and bashing the innocents has been happening here from day one and I rather not comment more on that!!! 🤬

true what you said. I understand and appreciate dark characters. But its not appreciation for what the dark character does! If he odes wrong, then being a 'hero' or a 'protagonist' shouldn't absolve him of that crime. That's not the point.
The point of a dark character is to enrich the story, by giving him something in his built up that makes him redeemable , likeable despite his darkness.
and this is the problem in MB. RK is so entirely wrong in what he does and how he does it, and why he does it, that its ludicrous to support him! And how is one to imagine him as a 'romantic lead' after all the atrocities hes committed on Madhu?
and for how long can he put the blame on his past, and go on destroying lives around him on his whim or simply soothe his ego? There has to be a line drawn somewhere ! There should be at least that one relationship in his life for whom he can do anything, make an exception! That is what love is about. making an exception. Like Madhu did. RK was so not the kind of guy she could have loved in normal circumstances. Egoistic, arrogant , rude, vengeful, wilful.. she had never met nor wanted to meet such a character in her life. But she did end up loving him, she found something in him that outweighed his vices.
But RK.. he has never made such an exception for anyone. that does not make him a victim! That makes everyone around him a victim.
had he been a teen , or a helpless man whi could not influence the life of others, one could sympathize with him.
But RK is a powerful man. and under the control of no one. How can you sympathize him? There is no self-realization about him , no guilt no remorse, and he still uses everything and everyone to his advantage! So what pain are you talking about?! and what help and what love?! He snatches waht he wants and no one can stop him at all.
Of course this man needs tp be leashed. and Madhu needs to be released from his smothering proximity.
People , here , have taken to forgetting everything Madhu goes through.. i mean some people have to be actually reminded that Madhu was brought by RK forcefully! that she was emotionally blackmailed by him to stay! that she did not want to set out on a revenge!
God! so at this point it can really be concluded that no such explanations can help where fanaticism is concerned.

Precisely. And even when you remind them it makes no effect, Madhu is supposed to dance as per RK's wishes, if she doesn't, if she attempts to fight back- she is a bitch. I've given up the hope that I can make them see reason ever- but I needed to get this rant off my mind, so here is my post.

Great post. Especially bringing up all the Mukund bashing, simply because he wasn't Rk, and the fact that RK was a jackass to MB from the start and this was a forced sham of a marriage.

You ask how this show is different.

This show is different if they have the guts to follow through on what they've been showing so far.

I've said this a few times this week here. People complain about the abuse shown and how the couple has been ruined for them. For me it's the opposite. I'm glad this has finally been shown for what it always was. I hate these jackass love stories where the guy treats the girl like dirt. I had no hope for this show either. All I saw was that Mukund the nice guy would eventually be screwed over and the RK-Madhubala love story would begin and people would root for it and go ga-ga over it. Despite the fact that the way he supposedly married her was outright APPALLING.

So for the creatives to show this so called love story which started out in a demeaning manner in the first place, playing along with the ridiculous, false romantic notions that that seem to be popular in serials, and then shatter it--that is no small thing, and deserves some credit.

If they keep up with it, then that's how this show is different. If they continue on showing this for what it is, and they don't end up showing RK-Madhu as some true love story.

People will take offense at my post, most likely. I've never posted my feelings outright like this other than privately to some friends. But your post just made me say this.
