BMB makers to promote film via National Anthem

By Bollywood Hungama News Network, April 27, 2013 - 13:54 hrs IST

The makers of the upcoming sports extravaganzaBhaag Milkha Bhaag featuring Farhan Akhtar have come up with a unique strategy to promote their film. in fact if all goes as planned then every time you are at a multiplex to see a film, you will be singing the National Anthem along with the biggest names in Indian sports world.

The reason, apparently the film's makers have devised a unique promotional strategy for the same. A source close to the production house reveals that a video is being shot featuring prominent personalities from Indian sports, in which, they will all be seen singing the National Anthem. "Since the biopic tells the real-life story of a hero (Milkha Singh) who fights against the odds, the makers believe it is something that needs to be saluted. That's how the idea of a National Anthem video featuring him and 12 contemporary sportspersons came about," says an insider close to the production house.

Golfer Jeev Milkha Singh is already on board. The others being approached include Indian Cricket captain MS Dhoni, shuttler Saina Nehwal, shooter Abhinav Bindra, footballer Baichung Bhutia, boxer Vijender Singh, wrestler Sushil Kumar, tennis player Sania Mirza, weight lifter Geeta Rani, retired hockey player Dhanraj Pillay, chess grandmaster Viswanathan Anand and Formula 1 racer Narain Karthikeyan. "At present, there are several versions of the National Anthem being played at different multiplexes. From July, they will all feature this new video."

This video will reportedly be shot by filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra (director of BMB). "It's yet to be decided whether the players will sing the National Anthem, or if playback singers will be roped in," the source adds.

I think it's a nice idea and it would be cool to see so many different athletes from all types of sports.

That's a nice strategy. At least every theater will play the National Anthem.

I think Fun Cinemas in India is the only multiplex which plays the National Anthem before any movie starts. The video that they play is beautiful as it involves the Indian Army.

Yes I love that version. Makes me feel so proud and tear up especially seeing the pride and joy on the faces of armymen when the National Anthem is played in tough terrains and weather conditions. 😭

Am on the fence about this one.

On one side I do love the fact that we will get to hear and see our National Anthem in a theatre and its quiet rare to hear/see that. But on the other side ppl are really disrespectful about the anthem in theatres. Not everyone gives it the respect it deserves and stands up when its being played. I used to get pissed off but those punk kids in Fun cinemas. Also I don't see why they should use the National Anthem to promote a movie? Why not come up with some other song,or use the same Maa tujhe salaam or something.

Yep this one. Really well shot and looks great on the big screen. My hairs always stands on the end whenever this one plays and I think of the tough working conditions soldiers face day in and day out.
