I have two back to back exams tomorrow, so today's study day and that's why there's an early update. Also I can guarantee that the next 3-4 updates will confuse you so much. I mean, even I was confused while writing them. Maybe I was in my 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' mode while writing it, I don't even know. When I think about it now, I probably would change it up, but I don't have time. I'd have to make you guys wait a couple weeks if I plan to change it. The thing is that I'm speaking from Madhu's POV, so there's only so much I can say. But don't worry! After 3-4 updates, it won't be so confusing and it'll make more sense. Promise! Oh also, italicized writing means flashback/dream/memory. In the context you'll know which of the three it is.
Chapter Twenty-Six - The Awakening
I heard the bell ring as I sat at the table with my drink.
"Oh no! I'm going to be late!"
I instantly rose and began running towards the doors. I ran until I hit something...or rather, someone. I watched as my drink splashed all over his white shirt.
"Oh my god! I'm so sorry!"
"No problem...it's not the first time you've bumped into me."
I slowly looked up to see his face after hearing his voice. I recognized him, yet I didn't know his name. I heard him chuckle as my face flushed red in embarrassment.
"I figure we're destined to keep bumping into each other so I might as well know your name."
He raised an eyebrow while awaiting an answer. I lowered my eyes and spoke softly.
"Madhubala."
"Madhubala...ahaan. What a beautiful name."
I flushed red again but this time due to his compliment. Then I slowly looked up at him again.
"You?"
"Rishabh...Rishabh Kundra, but you can call me RK."
---
I gasped.
"RK?!"
I screamed his name.
"RK! RK!"
"Madhu!?"
My eyes shot open and I was blinded by the fluorescent light above me. My hand instantly went to block the light as I squinted.
"ADI, CALL THE DOCTOR!"
Doctor? Where was I? I noticed the lights turn off and so I moved my hand.
"Madhu?"
I sat up immediately and backed away from the attractive man in front of me.
"Who are you? Where am I?!"
He reached for me but I retreated.
"Madhu, it's me, RK."
I heard the door open and my eyes instantly looked in that direction. I saw a doctor walking towards me with a taller, more handsome guy. The doctor came to my bedside and I retreated from him.
"What are you...what happened?!"
"Miss Madhubala, you had an accident. You're okay now though. You're in the hospital. Do you recognize these two men?"
I looked towards the two handsome guys on either side of me, both with scruff and worried expressions on their faces. I shook my head no.
"Doctor! Why doesn't she recognize us!? WHY?"
The guy to my right stood up with an angered expression.
"Mr. Kundra, she's a bit disoriented, she's awakening after two weeks, and it may take a bit of time for her to remember everything."
Two weeks? Awakening? What did he mean?
"How long doctor?"
The guy to my left, the one who had originally walked in with the doctor spoke calmly.
"It could be hours, or days."
I glanced towards both the men as they observed me with upset expressions. The doctor flashed a light in both of my eyes and nearly blinded me. That's when I realized I was in the hospital. I looked down at myself and saw a tube leading up to my face. I felt my nose and noticed where the tube entered.
"She seems to be in good condition. It's a good thing she awoke within the two weeks period I had mentioned. I'll be back to check on her later, for now she should get rest. And don't worry about her memory. It's only temporary retrograde amnesia, that's common in cases like these. Also, try to avoid causing shock of any sort, that could be costly."
I watched him walk out of the room and then the two men, who looked oddly similar, sat down on either side of me. The calm one to my left spoke first.
"Madhy, you don't remember us?"
I looked him up and down but nothing clicked. I shook my head no.
"You don't remember me?"
I looked to my right after hearing his husky voice. I looked into his eyes and then was hit with a sudden flashback.
---
"HE DID THIS MADHU!"
"NO RK! NO!"
---
I shuddered and put my hand to my head as a sharp pain took place.
"AH!"
"Madhu!? ADI CALL THE DOCTOR!"
I shook my head no and grabbed the man's hand that was beginning to stand. He looked back at me as I slowly stopped cringing. I assumed his name was Adi.
"Are you sure Madhy?"
I nodded my head. He stared at me and I could've sworn he was tearing up. He looked over my shoulder at the man to my right.
"Bro, I'm going to uhm...I'm, I think I'll go to work."
I watched as he quickly walked out of the room. Once the door closed behind him, I turned to look at the man to my right. His eyes were on me.
"What happened...?"
"You don't remember me?"
I shook my head no.
"What happened to me?"
"YOU DON'T REMEMBER ME?"
I shuddered and retreated from his loud voice. As he saw my startled reaction, he placed his elbows on my bed and rested his face in his palms.
"You always forget me. I never thought I'd have to go through this again."
I stared at him confused as he spoke. He slowly looked up at me and I saw a tear fall from his eye. Though I didn't recognize him, my heart began to feel heavy at seeing him tear up.
"I'm RK. Rishabh. Rishabh Kundra. You called my name when you came out of your coma."
"Coma?"
"Yes..."
"Coma?!"
My heart sped up as I realized what the doctor meant by awakening after two weeks. I didn't recognize the men and I had been out for two weeks. The monitor which tracked my heartbeat began to beep and I watched with blurry vision as the man to my right stood. I saw his mouth moving, as though he was speaking, but I couldn't hear anything. Then suddenly I fell back and my eyes closed against my will.
