The Power Of Love

'If my stay here bothers you that much, then I'm leaving. But before that I want to know one thing, Kumud….Why did you ask me to come here?' Kumud covered her ears with her hands as his words reverberated in her ears. She did not answer him not because she did not know what to say, but to hide the mere truth from Saras. Kumud sat down on the floor, hugging her knees as she wailed through her tears. She remembered everything.

She was like a butterfly spreading her wings a dainty show, sipping the sweet slowly. Too charming, too tempting. Secretly she built a palace for her prince in her heart, making herself devoted only to him. She spent time with her prince in her dreams. She was drowned in the deepness of his eyes; the eyes that speaks volumes, the eyes that shows purity. She painted her colourless dreams with all her might, exactly as she saw in her dreams; the deep eyes and the thick brows that matched perfectly with his physique. As nothing lasts forever, her dreams were shattered by just a simple letter from him. He rejected her. The man of her dreams rejected her without even seeing her. Her heart was torn into pieces.

She asked Saras to come to Ratnanagiri in acrimony. She did not want to think about the consequences then, but it seems to be too late now. The first time she saw him, she thanked the creator for creating such a perfect being. He appeared like one of the Greek Gods in her eyes. She sneaked glances over him secretly, following him everywhere like his shadow. Her heart was beyond her control then.

It was not only his purity that attracted her to him but his altruism. He saved her father from the wild fire without caring for himself. Being a stranger he still managed to save an innocent kid from the cold water. He proved that he was beyond perfect than the prince of her dreams. He did not bother about anything but the happiness and well being of others. Why did he not think about her while rejecting her? Why didn't he respect her feelings? It should not be true. Saras would never take the blame of the sin her brother did, if he does not care about her and her family.

Kumud got up abruptly, walked to the cupboard and took out the red bangles she bought from the town. She caressed them closing her eyes and smiled through her tears. She looked at the mirror to see his reaction to her choice. Her thoughts and self-control go beyond her control every time Saras is around her. She cannot escape if ever she met his sharp gazes.

She knew it was one-sided love as Saras has clearly mentioned he cannot commit to a relationship. Besides knowing the truth why did she care so much for him? She spent restless nights thinking about how Saras would be struggling in the coldness of the nights he spent at Ms. Ila's house. She even had secret visits to him to make sure he was alright. Why did she strike for hunger knowing that Saras would be spending his days with only one meal during his trial?

Why did his words affect her so much? Why did she want him to stay back? She felt protected when he is around. He was right, there is something between them. An unknown bond is bounding them together. Every time she wants him to leave, something holds him back. What is it between them? She knew her heart beats quickened whenever he comes closer to her. The gentleness and the warmth of his touches melted from her inside like an ice cube melting from the heat. She felt an urge within him as well; a need for her, though he never revealed it. His eyes told her that he cares for her, longed for her while he spoke of something else. He was testing her, if not he is trying to be just as stubborn as her.

'No!' Kumud screamed at the top of her voice and ran out of the room. She ran as fast as she could, with her hair flying in the air. She stopped as she bumped into Dhugba, who came out to close the windows. 'Kumud!' Dhugba was scared at the condition of Kumud, but could not manage to stop her. Kumud pushed and opened the door of the room where Saras stayed in just one go. He was coming towards the door with his luggage. With a blink of an eye Kumud ran into him and hugged him so tight that Saras almost lost his balance. Surprised, he let go off his luggage and put his arms around her.

Dhugba, who came after kumud, nodded to Saras and closed the door behind her with a sigh.
