They are following Food Network's protocol to find the Master Chef. I don't know if US Master Chef shows this kind of outdoor cooking and selling tasks- never watched the entire US Master Chef. Or may be India's Master Chef is creating its own template to follow.

Saw a couple of seasons of MC Australia.

In season 2, the red and blue teams had to manage two Italian restaurants.

9/02-4Wednesday 28 April 2010Off Site Challenge 1 – Winner: Red Team. The off site team challenge, to take over the running of two Italian restaurants, saw the Red Team conquer despite having a simpler menu. From the Blue Team, Jonathan and Devon were selected by the judges as the two worst performers and were up for elimination. Sarah withdrew from the competition to return to her family.

Remember last year in MCI season 2, the contrstants had to manage a 5-star gourmet hotel?

Episode 12 : Cooking in a 5 star restaurant (3 December)

The contestants are surprised when they are declared the chefs for the day at a hotel. Rajendra is safe for this week as he won Rs. 1 lakh from the previous week. The contestants were divided into Red and Blue teams Rajendra was ask to choose captains for both the teams. He chooses Joseph and Shazia as red and blue team captain respectively.

The teams will be judged on the basis of the revenue collected from real customers. They are thrilled to be performing under pressure as real chefs. Joseph's Red team wins the challenge and Shazia's Blue team is distressed and worried about competing in the next round.

The guests and the judges congratulate the contestants for their performance. Now the next challenge will be in Hong Kong.

Hope that convinces you that this is not the first time contestants were made to generate money thru their cooking skills 😊

In top chef they always have resturant wars. This is similar except there the judges taste the food, and judge based on food, service, and decor.
