Producer Bhushan Kumar has officially confirmed that Border 3 is in the works, bringing clarity to months of speculation around the future of the popular war film franchise led by Sunny Deol.
Speaking in a recent interaction with Hindustan Times, Bhushan Kumar shared updates on his ongoing collaborations with director Anurag Singh, who also helmed Border 2. While discussing another project, he confirmed the third instalment’s status. “We are doing a joint venture (a different film) with his company and my company. He’ll be directing, and it will be something new. Border 3 will happen in due course,” Bhushan Kumar said, directly addressing questions around the franchise.
The producer further stressed why the decision to move ahead felt inevitable. “Obviously, it is such a big franchise,” he said, adding, “Anurag has worked so hard to rebuild it. If you bring something back after almost 30 years and it is getting so much love, we will definitely take it forward.”
The confirmation comes at a time when Border 2 is performing strongly at the box office. Directed by Anurag Singh, the film features Sunny Deol in the lead role, alongside Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty.
Backed by T Series and JP Films, Border 2 continues the legacy of the 1997 film Border, which remains a landmark in Hindi cinema for its portrayal of soldiers and wartime sacrifice. The sequel revisits similar themes while updating the narrative for a new generation.
Industry observers note that reviving a franchise after nearly three decades carries significant risk. However, Border 2’s reception appears to have reassured the makers about audience appetite for the story.
The film has opened to largely positive reviews, with viewers responding to its emotional beats and large scale action sequences. Trade reports indicate strong footfalls, particularly in single screen theatres.
With Border 3 now confirmed, expectations around the franchise’s future have grown. While details regarding casting, timeline or storyline remain under wraps, Bhushan Kumar’s statement makes it clear that the project is part of a longer term vision.
