Filmmaker Neeraj Pandey has officially stepped back from the controversial title of his upcoming film starring Manoj Bajpayee, earlier known as Ghooskhor Pandat. After facing strong objections and legal scrutiny, the director has informed the Supreme Court that the title has been completely withdrawn and will not be used in any form going forward. The development comes after days of criticism from certain groups who claimed the title hurt religious sentiments. With the matter reaching the apex court, Pandey submitted a detailed affidavit clarifying his position and intent.
Title Dropped After Public Objections
The controversy began soon after the teaser was unveiled on February 3. Sections of the public raised concerns over the film’s title, alleging that it was offensive and disrespectful toward a particular community. As the backlash grew louder, the makers chose to act swiftly.
According to the affidavit submitted before the Supreme Court, all promotional material linked to the disputed title was pulled down within days. By February 6, the teaser and related content had been withdrawn. Pandey stated clearly that neither he nor his production house had any intention of insulting or provoking religious feelings.
He further assured the court that the earlier title stands “unequivocally withdrawn” and will not be revived in any capacity.
Legal Row And Clarification On Intent
In his submission, Pandey firmly denied any deliberate attempt to hurt religious sentiments. He emphasised that the film does not mock, target, or misrepresent any religion, caste, or community, whether through visuals, dialogues, or promotional content.
The filmmaker also assured the court that the new title, once finalised, will not resemble or hint at the earlier one. It will instead reflect the core storyline without creating room for misunderstanding.
The legal clarification appears to be an effort to put the controversy to rest and prevent further escalation.
What The Film Is Actually About
Amid the heated debate over its title, the makers have reiterated that the film is purely fictional. It is described as a police drama centred around a criminal investigation and does not portray any specific group as corrupt.
With Manoj Bajpayee leading the cast, the project has already generated interest among audiences. Now, with a fresh title on the way and legal matters addressed, the team seems focused on moving ahead without further distractions.
