I know mom, dadi, nani are the ultimate. But sometimes when you are looking for something different or want to make what you had in a restaurant or at someone's party, do you have any particular site/person's cookery book you turn to for help?

I usually google as is the norm for everything from sardi zukhaam to building a bomb but if I am blank, I go to Vah re vah -
1. I find the guy cute , funny and passionate about food (he eats throughout in the name of tasting and even licks the spoon at the end sometimes 😆)
2. His recipes come out well
3. He gives good tips for substitutes , taste, etc. And if he is cooking veg, he makes sure it is complete veg

^Actually never tried any of his. Have tried some of Tarla Dalal and there was a book written by Madhur Jafferey and in between chapters she had given some classic Indian recipes which I have unfortunately misplaced

Here are the site I frequent for Gujarati and other desi Indian foods (as opposed to South African Indian).

Super veggie delight
Show me the curry
Manjula's Kitchen

Being non Gujji and cooking for my Gujji hubby, I found a lot of success at the above sites.

For my South African palate, I refer to our nationally acclaimed recipe book 'Indian Delights' by Zuleikha Mayat. It's my bible. Otherwise, of course, mum is a phone call away.

Oh forgot to add Pinterest. My newest go to site.

Ever had a piping hot Durban curry or bunny chow. Ooh, how I miss home.

😆Bulls, From what i have heard from my MIL is that mysore pak though sounds and luks simple at making, it is the TOUGHEST sweet and if need to be made the way it luks( with those holes or gaps in the middle light layer, and with the dark layers at the top and bottom...)., then only vah re vah is the right one as i actually kept the lappy at my kitchen platform and did step by step as he said and it came out superbly well...! 😃
