Chapter Six

Taani agreed to dance as Rey's partner. She wrote a really beautiful play just within two days. A romantic story with couple dances, solo dances and a group dance at the end.

She showed the play to her friends. The gang was really spellbound by her writing.

"Taani, tumne itna achcha play likha hai! Kaise?" Rinni asked, with wide eyes. "Jyada kuch nahi, jaise sujha, waise likhti jayi." Taani, said with a smile.

Swayam put his arm round his dear sister and said, "Mujhe toh pata hi nahi tha ki meri behen itni achchi stories bhi likhti hai. Ab samajh aa raha hi ki school mein story-witing ya essay-writing mein Hamesha full marks kaise laati thi tum."

"Bhai!" Taani punched him lightly. "Bol toh aise rahe ho ki first time maine likhi hui koi story padh rahe ho. Bhul gaye, school mein sab essays aap mujhse hi likhwate the.

"Swayam? Tu isse apne essays likhwata tha?"Rey said. "Haan yaar. Swayam, tujhse ye umeed nahi thi." Vicky said.

The rehearsals for the Face Off started the next day. For the first two days, they spent hours deciding the perfect songs and the perfect dancers for the song. It was anonymously decided that the couple dances would be done by Rey-Taani and Swayam-Sharon.

They worked very hard for the Face Off, rehearsing for at least 5-6 hours daily. During these rehearsals, Taani came very close to Rey and Sharon. Now she had three best buddies in the college. Her Bhai Swayam, Sharon and of course, Rey.

One day, Rey and Taani were practicing alone. Taani had not danced for 5 years and had some trouble with the moves. Also, during the rehearsals, she had practiced with Swayam, so she thought that she should practice once with Rey, as she would be performing with him.

They were practicing the couple dance. Taani's foot slipped. She closed her eyes tightly and readied herself for a fall but she didn't reach the floor. Rey had caught her. She opened her eyes slowly and looked at Rey. (TaaRey bkgd tune & LLHH)

It was Taani who first came out of the trance and got up. "Sorry!" Taani said, "Aap toh jaante hai, meri stupid aadat hai –"

"-Main hamesha girti rehti hoon." Rey completed her, rolling his eyes. "Come on Taani, yeh tumhari aadat nahi hai. Mujhe toh tumhari hobby lagati hai." He said with a mischievous smile, which made Taani laugh.

"Waise…" Taani said a little hesitantly, "… Meri hobby girna nahi, writing hai." She looked at Rey. Something about him made her want to tell him everything about her little secret.

"Bhai bahot achcha dance karte hai, bachpan se. Unhe dekhke maine bhi unse dance sikh liya. Aur bachpan se main books bahot padhti thi. Phir un writers se inspire hoke khud stories likhne lagi. Then my family discovered that I am a good writer. Par tab mujhe lagata tha ki mujhe dance achcha lagata hai, isliye maine writing mein itna concentrate nahi kiya." She walked a few steps away.

" Magar dhire dhire I found out that writing gave me a different type of joy. So maine dance chod diya aur stories likhne lagi. Aur yeh play jo maine likha hai, woh isi ki wjah se aap sab ko pasand aya hai."

Taani turned towards Rey. Rey looked surprised. He said, "Swayam ne to yeh kabhi mention nahi kiya ki tumhara passion writing hai. But well this explains tumne itna achcha play kaise likha hai."

"Aur aap ye sab kisi ko nahi bata rahe hai. Yeh abtak mera secret tha, aur ab hum dono ka secret hai. Khabardar jo agar kisik bataya." She said, glaring at Rey.

"You mean ke ye Swayam, aur uske parents, Yaani tumhare uncle aur aunty ko bhi nahi pata?" Rey asked, shocked.

"Yes, they know nothing about it. Aur Bhai ke parents nahi, hum dono ke parents. Main unhe Mom aur Dad hi bulati hoon. Mere parents kaise the yeh to mujhe yaad hi nahi." She said with a frown. "Magar ab mere sabhi friends mere sath hai, toh unki yaad bhi nahi aati."

"Okay, sweethe-" Rey stopped himself. "Okay Taani, ab last time practice kar le aaj ke liye?" "Okay." Taani replied.

As Taani turned on the music player, Rey rebuked himself, "Rey tu abhi kya bol raha tha? Sweetheart? Woh bhi Taani ko? Taani meri best friend hai. Meri best friend. Nothing else. Understand?"

The music started. Rey moved towards Taani for the dance. He tried to concentrate on the dance but couldn't take his eyes off Taani's face.

Taani closed her eyes. She was sure she would make some mistake. She was expecting a big problem with co-ordination but it turned out that once she was dancing with Rey, the moves came automatically to her.

Al l through the dance, Rey was looking at Taani and Taani was thinking how she was getting all the moves correct. Surprisingly, they completed the dance flawlessly.
