Belonging to the Khan family, Malaika says that she has a strong MP connect with Indore being her sasuraal!
The actress was recently in the city for a promotional event after a hiatus of nearly three long years, but Malaika Arora Khan says that Indore is more like a second home. After all, it's her sasuraal! "Our roots lie here. My husband Arbaaz (Khan) was born in Indore, which technically makes me an Indorean too. And a lot of our relatives also stay here. So every time I'm here for some work, I make it a point to meet my sasuraal waale," Malaika says, adding, "I love the homelyatmosphere of Indore and Bhopal. People here are very warm and affectionate. I always look forward to my MP visits."
The actress, who's known for her hit item numbers, says that she's content with her career. "I started off as a VJ and music videos and modelling happened soon after. I've always enjoyed dancing and so doing the so-called item numbers was just as obvious. It's only because the audiences liked my work, I'm here today. I was offered a couple of movies, but acting was never my cup of tea. I'm very happy doingspecial performances and cameos. And if I were doing item numbers to grab a meaty role in films, toh woh main dus saal pehle hi kar chuki hoti," Malaika says.
Talking about item songs, what does she have to say about the whole issue that such numbers commodify women and that they should be banned? "I would say that of course, it is wrong to objectify women. But at the same time,entertainment should not be inter-mingled with commodification. As long as, in the real society, everyone respects women, such allegations don't mean anything," says she.
Reacting to Sanjay Dutt's, who is also one of her very close family friends, sentence to five years of imprisonment, Malaika says, "He's one of the nicest people I have ever known and it's extremely sad news for all of us. Sanjay and his family have already been suffering for the past 20 years. We can just hope and pray for his mercy."
Juggling effortlessly between the roles of a mother, a wife, a fashion icon, and now a producer, Malaika says that managing things isn't as tough as it seems. "Over the years I've learnt how to strike a balance between both my lives, and give quality time to my passion as well as to my family. Yes, it is tiring at times and every working woman goes through the phase. We have to juggle between each of our roles, as all of them are important. I guess, I'm a good manager now. Moreover, I'm loving the concept of donning the producer's hat. It's all very exciting as well as a great learning experience. You're a part of a film right from its conception to its execution, and that's an amazing feeling," Malaika says.
