If you haven't heard of an ancient city called Meluha and a demi-god in the form of a human 'Neelkanth', then you are way behind the times and it is either going to be join the race or fall off the side-lines for you.
We are talking about the latest book by the Indian author, Amish, which is doing the rounds in many bestseller lists and generating much hype and curiosity.
This book, the first of three forming the famed trilogy on Shiva, gained much popularity because of the never attempted imagination of considering a god to be just an ordinary man, who was raised to the status of the divine because of his deeds, by the people who lived thousands of years ago.
The protagonist of the book, Shiva, is depicted as a masculine force of nature who with his astute physique, dreamy eyes, a burning blue throat, a shaggy crown of matted hair, and his trademark tiger skin skirt wrapped snugly around the girth of his waist. He is a reluctant but inspirational leader, a fearless warrior, a perfect dancer and a passionate lover, a hero like the one you don't see in books based on history or spirituality.
He alone as the writer says is enough to guide the story forward. However, the author Amish has cleverly packed in an element of discovery and surprise, with every book, of ancient India and the various old cities and kingdoms, which seem to jump right out of our history texts and present themselves in our imagination.
The buzz created by the Shiva Trilogy did not take long to make its way across to the magical town of Bollywood, and none other than Karan Johar has bought the rights of the first book to translate the tale into a silver screen saga. The ace filmmaker also added, "I was blown away with the world of Meluha and rivetted by Amish's creation of it. I think the book lends itself beautifully for celluloid and we are very excited to promote Amish's labour of love effectively."
No one can do justice to this role except for the cinematic Greek god, Hrithik Roshan, who is confirmed to be playing the male lead and after nearly a decade of no films together, Kareena Kapoor, playing the female lead in this film will be reuniting with her K3G co-star. The team of 'Agneepath' will be collaborating with Karan Johar for this film. Work has already begun on the film which is due for release in Diwali 2014.
So while the recent release of the final instalment of the trilogy, 'the Oath of the Vayuputras', is satiating ardent fans and followers of the trilogy, a whole country lying in the lap of the Himalaya would definitely flock the theatres to watch the story of the Himalayan nomad, Shiva unravel on the silver screen.
