So I was reading SamiR's post about Sandy's sacrifice and it inspired me. ...
I had earlier watched Sandy go through many tortures and trials and seen a true champion. Yes, it was clouded by all the usual saas-bahu bruhahas, spineless this one, clueless that one... all the most predictable and annoying ways that dramas get caricatured. But despite being humiliated, despite having no real open support from anyone, she had fixed her mind on some form of virtue and stuck to it. This is character. Always dependable. Not too emotional, in fact downright 'cold'. But displaying emotion never achieves anything in antagonistic situations. Better to keep one's powder dry, rather than drown it with tears. So in very UN-tvbahu-like behaviour, she refused to cry.
But more than the above, letting go of a dream. Not the usual self-sacrificing bahu who not only smiles through it all but also conveniently forgets about her dream and replaces it with new found dedication to family. Ya. Tv-bahu doesn't even fake the happiness. She's actually, really, truly happy 24/7. This is supposed to be virtuous.
No, Sandy has always had the dream, always will. But, despite the pain it would have caused, was going to give it up. Every day after that, she was prepared to let her soul cry every time she remembered and STILL get through it. Character. Maybe that's what Suraj sees in her. And he loves her. No way that he can let her do that.
So you see, Diya and Baati has become about Suraj realising that Sandy will even give her life for what she believes to be right. I even begin to understand that Sandy can and has experienced fear. There was fear in those dark days, sharing a room with SV2. There was fear of Bhabo every day. She was in the fire and something in her made her stay and walk in it and not leave. Did she realise that if she stuck with it, one day, it would yield some fruit? One day, she'd come out stronger? Character. When you are ready to fight to the death, then life takes on new meaning.
Suddenly everything becomes a challenge. Everything is a race. Everything is a fight to the end. I don't know if everything should be viewed this way, but I'm sure this is Sandy's perspective.
But still, there are some life lessons to be learned from my Monday morning lecture. Get to it.
(just thought I should attempt to be serious and analytical, coz I'm part of the senior gang)
ps: Just caught up with Sandy and Chulbul. Here again, Sandy was Sandy. Sandy at her best. She was low key. Chulbul was wicked. There was one moment when Chulbul was giving his wonky advice and Sandy looked so dignified. Just standing there with a look of perfect togetherness and composure. All this is the result of many agni pareekshas.
hey are you guys taking notes!
