She definitely has character. Though people with character, it seems, get rewarded in a very delayed manner. Speaking from Sandhya's POV, she could care less about this since the end goal is within herself (i.e. upholding her values, honoring her love..) rather than out there in the material world.

This is the WHOLE point Samir ji. Character doesn't only not need rewards, it doesn't particularly value them as anything tangibly worthwhile. And yes, as you've said below, people like this live in a kind of tension... moral tension, if you like. They have a goal, but they are willing to let it go. They have a dream, but they are willing to let it die. They know also that they are not the centre of their world. Selfless in certain ways. Weird in other ways. Appear cold, but have more warmth in their soul than even they themselves know or others will ever know. They will suffer for being misunderstood. That's also the price of character. But they will suffer if they must.

Objectively speaking, however, we would like such people to be rewarded for their virtuous behavior. So interestingly, we like Sandhya for her character, but we also want her to be an IPS officer; even though her character is really the biggest obstacle for her IPS dream! (I think this is why there was so much debate in the forum during the night college track).

This ofcourse is where Suraj comes in, with his mission to get Sandhya what she deserves. I guess this is what compatibility is: Reaching a sort of equilibrium, rather than ending up at one of the extremes. In other words, SurYa needing each other to maintain both character and IPS dream, rather than just ending up with one or the other. 🤔
