Like any other 14-year-old, she's full of life and fluffy dreams for the future. Winning Zee's Sa Re Ga Ma L'il Champs, however, has made all the difference to Sanchita Bhattacharya's childish wishes. "It never struck me that I won, even when the final announcement was made. It was only when Alkaji explained it to me that I realised I had finished first,'' says Bhattacharya, who broke into tears on stage because she thought she had lost. Predictably, it was when Shah Rukh Khan handed her the winning prize of a scholarship worth Rs 15 lakh that it all sank in. Competing in the contest was no cakewalk, with all the participants missing school and staying away from home to keep ahead. "I doubt if my parents and I can go home to Howrah. We are waiting for the director to allow us to do so. I am missing school for now,'' she says. The run-up to the contest could well have been a roller-coaster ride for this teen. "I spent most of my days practicing so I was quite confident of winning. But there were times when I gave up on myself,'' says Bhattacharya, who started with singing only three years ago. Her parents, doubled as her teachers. She won your hearts as the ugly duckling who turned into the beautiful swan and married the handsome prince. Now Mona Singh, aka Jassi, has danced her way into history as Miss Twinkle Toes. Yes, the actress won Jhalak Dikhla Jaa (Sony) ahead of Shveta Salve, proving that she knows more than how to act. Although many including Shilpa Shetty considered Shweta the superior dancer, the public thought otherwise. Mona was all smiles and laughter with a little humility as she requested Shweta to share the prize with her. In the final round, Mona danced with the gay abandon she always does and looked dishy too in burgundy strapped dress. The final was a two-hour show that saw all the contestants perform together and turn by turn before Mona and Shweta did a jugal bandhi. A special moment that turned out to be rather ordinary was the performance by hosts Archana Puran Singh and Parmeet Sethi.Till the next dance, then. |
