I rubbed my forehead trying to absorb a long told lie. He had been fighting this alone for two years.

"State settled and then, the case was brought back up for political benefit". His voice was trembling; this was no easy matter.

"Cop's word against mine. Who are they going to believe?"

"I was there. I saw, I took you to the hospital".

"The record books say the cops called the ambulance. You weren't at the scene. If I call you as witness, they'll know who you are".

"They better know who I am. There is no way I will let any dirty cop harass you".

"Deeper than that, sister thing".

"You slept with his sister?"

"Zaidi, his brother is back in town".

That little b@#$% had created enough problems for me already. I was not about let another one be added to the list.

"I am fighting your case".

"No", he pressed my hand tightly between his.

"I didn't give you another choice".

"I love it when you take the lead", he winked as if the conversation never happened.

"Such a sub whatever that means".

"Come talk to me at night", his comment invited a cynical laugh. If he is this mischievous at twenty, he will be a handful in middle age.
