CHAPTER 40

A week passed after the incident. Life was better that it was before everything had happened. Khushi managed to convince Anjali to knock out the 'ji' out of her name. They became very close to each other and what Arnav had predicted had been true. Anjali didn't let Khushi out of her sight and he had a hard time trying to plot one thing or the other to get her to meet him alone.

Siddharth looked after his Mumbai office from his recently expanded base in Delhi. He visited Shantivan regularly for two reasons. The first reason, to see Khushi and his DJ, obviously. The second was not as obvious as the first. He went there to stare at the beauty of his first and only love, Anjali. He had been heart broken when he heard about her marriage. Somehow, he had gathered the broken pieces of his heart together for his father. He had always wanted her to be happy even if it wasn't with him. Since, Shyam was out of the picture, the feelings he had suppressed for so long wanted to see Anjali as his bride. He wanted to show her what love truly was. For that, he knew he had to be patient. No one other that Khushi knew that the love of his life was Anjali and he decided to let it remain like that.

The whole Raizada family, except Arnav, Akash and NK, decided that Khushi should occupy the guest room until they get married. Protests from Arnav that they were already married fell on deaf ears.

Either nani or mami stayed with Khushi at night. Sleep did not come easy to Arnav and Khushi as it had become a habit to sleep in each other's arms.

"Khushi, where is my tie?" Arnav shouted from his room.

"Jao, Khushi. Chote janaab tie maang rahe hain," Anjali told her. [Go, Khushi. Chote janaab is asking for his tie.]

She went to their room and found him standing near the closet. When he sensed her presence behind him, he turned around and pulled her close. She was mesmerized by his eyes and no words came out of her mouth.

"Do I look so handsome that you can't even speak?" he asked her with a smirk.

She pushed him away and said, "Aisa kuch nahi." Only then she noticed that he already wore a tie. "You are wearing a tie."

"Patha hai," he replied. "I just wanted to spend a few mintues alone with you. Whenever I try to come close to you, one person or the other is always breathing down our necks. Aur tum bhi unki support karthi ho. Pathi ka feelings par thoda bhi fikar nahi hai tujhe." [You are also supporting them. You are not concerned about your husband's feelings.]

"Sirf shaadi tak ki baath hai na?" [It is just till our wedding, right?]

"Mujhe nahi karni shaadi waadhi," he told her and pouted like a kid. [I don't want to get married.]

She pinched his cheeks and said, "Achcha baba…. Sorry. Ab kya karna hai, bathao." [Tell me. What should I do?]

"You will do whatever I say?"

"Bilkul." [Absolutely.]

"Tum mijhe kiss karna hai." [You have to kiss me.]

"Okay."

She wrapped her arms around his waist and kissed his forehead.

When she tried to move away, he held her close and asked, "Kahaan jaa rahi ho?" [Where are you going?]

"Tumne kiss maangi aur maine dhedhi. Bas." [You asked for a kiss and I gave you. That's it.]

"Maine ek se stop karne ke liye nahi kaha." [I didn't tell you to stop with one.]

She shook her head and said, "Nahi. Nahi. Yeh ramanchi."

He thought it was a name and asked, "Yeh Raman ji kaun?" [Who is this Raman ji?]

"Raman ji nahi. Cheating," she said with a chuckle.

"Forget it. Tum mujhe dho. Varna main dhoongi." [Forget it. You give me. Or I will give you.]

Her cheeks and nose turned red.

"Permission mil gayi," he said with a chuckle. [I got permission.]

He kissed her forehead and she closed her eyes. He then kissed her closed eye lids, her nose and when he was about to kiss her cheeks, they heard a voice.

"Kya ho raha hai yahaan?" [What is happening here?]

Both of them removed their hands from each other and looked at nani and her team of interruptors who were Anjali, Payal and mami.

Khushi said, "Kuch nahi, nani. Bas tie doond rahe the." [Nothing, nani. We were searching for the tie.]

"Haan, nani. Tie." Arnav supported her.

"Kitne ajeeb baath hai na, chote?" Anjali asked him. [So strange, isn't it, chote?]

"Kya, di?" [What, di?]

"You were searching for your tie and look, your tie has already found you."

Both were embarrassed at being caught by the family and they didn't know what to say.

"Yeh sab theek nahi hai," nani said. "Anjali bitya, hume kuch karna hoga." [This is not right. Anjali bitya, we have to do something.]

"Kya karna hai, nani?" Anjali asked with as teasing smile. [What should we do, nani.]

"Siddharth bitwa ko bulao." [Call Siddharth bitwa.]

Siddharth had just then entered. "I am already here, nani."

"Achcha hua, aap aagaye." [It is good that you came.]

"Kya hua, nani?" [What happened, nani?]

"Aap aaj hi Khushi bitya ko ghar le jaayiye." [Take Khushi bitya to your house right now.]

"Ji?" Khushi asked in shock.

"Nani?" This was from Arnav.

Siddharth understood what everything was about and decided to play along. "Haan, nani. Bilkul. Whatever you say is okay." He turned to Khushi and said, "Sweetheart, main neeche wait kar raha hoon. Tum jaldi aa jao." [Sweetheart, I will wait for you downstairs. Come soon.]

Khushi gave Arnav a helpless glance and Arnav's eyes mirrored the same look.

"Chote, app ko office nahi jaana?" nani asked him. [Chote, don't you have to go to office?]

"Ji…..?" When his brain registered the question, he said, "Haan. Haan. Jaana hai." [Have to go.]

"Toh jaayiye." [Then go.]

Arnav looked at his family as if he would murder them and left his room. After he left, everyone went to do their work with bright smiles on their faces.

Khushi found Siddharth in the living room with a newspaper in his hand.

She punched him in his arm and said, "Tume abhi aanaa hai kya?" [You had to come now?]

"Maine kya kiye?" he whined. [What did I do?]

"Kuch over smart math bano. Varna tumara andhar chupe hue majnu ko main bahar nikalungi. Aur sabke saamne sach kehdoongi." [Don't act over smart. Or else I will bring out the majnu hidden in you and I will tell everyone the truth.]

"Tum kuch bhi kar sakthi ho." He pulled her closer and whispered, "Mere saath chalo. Mein AR office jaa raha hoon, ek merger ki baarein main baath karne ke liye." [You can do anything. Come with me. I am going to AR office to talk about a merger.]

Her eyes twinkled. "Sachi?" [Really?]

He smiled. "Haan. Want to come?"

She hugged him and said, "I love you, Siddhu."

"Love you too, sweetheart."

"When are we leaving?"

"Whenever you want," he replied. "But ek condition hai." [But I have a condition.]

"Kya?" [What?]

"Main ab tumari help kar raha hoon. And when the time comes, I need your help." [I am helping you now. And when the time comes, I need your help.]

She looked in the direction he saw and noticed Anjali.

"Yeh condition ki koi zarurat nahi hai. [There is no need for this condition.] Even if you don't ask me, I will help you."

They went to Arnav's office and Siddharth decided to surprise Arnav. He asked her to go to Arnav's room when he was in the conference hall attending the meeting.

"I have a meeting with Arnav," he told Aman.

Aman knew Siddharth well and he took him to the conference hall and informed his boss of his arrival.

When Arnav went to the conference hall, Khushi went to Arnav's room and waited for him.

As soon as Arnav entered the conference hall, he saw Siddharth and what had happened in his room appeared before him.

"Did you have to do that?"

"Do what, Arnav?" he asked innocently.

"You know what I am talking about." Before Siddharth could reply, he said, "Anyway, let's start the meeting."

"Aman, Akash and I can work on the merger. You go to your room."

He didn't understand anything. "But why?"

"You will know when you go there," he said with a grin.

Arnav gave him a confused look.

"Mera baath maano aur jao." [Trust me and go.]

Aman, Akash and Siddharth discussed the details of the merger while Arnav went to his room.

Arnav opened the door to find Khushi sitting in his chair. His eyes widened.

"Khushi!" he exclaimed in surprise.

"Arnav," she said with a bright smile.

"What are you doing here?"

"Tume surprise dena chathatha. Pasand nahi aayi?" [I wanted to surprise you. Didn't like it?]

"Pasand nahi?" he asked. [Didn't like it?]

He drew the curtains and his glass cabin was fully covered. She got up from the chair and hugged him.

"Bahut pasand aayi." [Liked it a lot?]

He sat on his chair and made her sit on his lap. He put his hand around her waist and snuggled close to her.

When he was about to say something, the phone is in his cabin rang.

"Hello!"

"Arnav, this is Aman."

"Yeah Aman! Tell me."

"The date for the next show has been finalised. It is next week. Hume budget aur designs decide karna hoga." [We have to decide about the budget and the designs.]

He rubbed his forehead as he had completely forgotten about that.

"Designs main decide karlungi. Budget ke baarein mein kal baath karenge." [I will decide about the designs. We will talk about the budget tomorrow.]

"Okay, Arnav."

"Siddharth tumare saath hai?" [Is Siddharth with you?]

"You want to tell him something?"

"Tell him I said thanks."

He replaced the receiver and he checked his blackberry.

Khushi noticed his troubled expression and asked, "Kuch kaam hai?" [You have work?]

"Haan. Ek tho ghar mein tumare saath time spend nahi kar saktha. Aur tum office aagayi. Ab mujhe ek show ke liye designs finalise karni hai." [Yes. I can't spend time with you at home. And you have come here. Now, I have to finalise some designs for a show.]

She got up from his lap and said, "You finish your work. I'll wait for you."

She took a magazine from a shelf and turned the pages while Arnav worked on the designs. Once in a while, she looked up from the magazine and noticed how tired he was. Neither of them had enough sleep without the feel of each other in their arms.

An hour later, he closed the file he was working on and looked at Khushi who was glancing at the fifteenth magazine.

"You didn't sleep well?" she asked him.

"Tumari bina?" [Without you?]

He pressed a number in his phone and said, "Shilpa, I am busy right now. I don't want anybody to disturb me until I tell you. Divert the calls to Akash or Aman."

He got up from his chair and lifted Khushi. He carried her to the couch and gently laid her on it. He removed his coat and loosened his tie. He joined her on the couch and put his arms around her waist. She placed her head on his chest and hugged him.

"I am not hurting your arm, am I?" he asked her.

"No."

"Won't you ask me who Shilpa is?"

"No," she repeated.

"Wonderful. I can have a number of affairs after I am married and you won't ask me anything. Everybody should get a wife like you."

"Extra affairs nahi. Extra affair. Sirf ek."

"Only with Shilpa?" he asked in confusion.

She hit his chest and said, "Khushi Singh Raizada ke saath shaadi aur Khushi Raina ke saath chakkar. Deal?" [Marry Khushi Singh Raizada and have an affair with Khushi Raina. Deal?]

He smiled and kissed her forehead. "I love you, jaan."

"I love you, too."

She caught his right hand and played with his fingers while he moved his hand on her back.

"Arnav…."

"Hmm…."

"Tume patha hai na?" [You know, right?]

"Kya?" [What?]

"Main aaj se Siddhu aur papa ke saath rahungi. Shaadi tak." [From today, I will stay with Siddhu and papa. Until marriage.]

He stopped moving his fingers on her back and remained silent. She raised her head to look at him. His eyes were fixed on the ceiling.

"Arnav….?"

"Maine socha woh mazak tha." [I thought it was for fun.]

"Mazak nahi tha."

"It is more than a month, jaan. How will I live without you? I couldn't sleep when you were in the room next to mine. Now you are leaving the house altogether. What will happen to me?"

She placed her head on his chest again and said, "I'll meet you in office. Roz nahi aa sakthi hoon. Waise main hamesha ke liye ghar chodke thodi na jaa rahi hoon. [I can't come everyday. Anyway, I am not leaving forever.] Only for a little more than a month."

"I'll see if I can do something."

Without their own knowledge, they slept in each other's arms while their hearts thudded together.
