You Dont Need A De-glam Role to win an Award
As one of our highest follo'ed celebrities, what would you like to say to your fans?
Hi, and I want to thank them for all the love, support and encouragement that they have given me over the last couple of years. Keep Follo'ing.
How would you describe your journey from Om Shanti Om?
It's been five years since Om Shanti Om released and I feel like every day has been a learning experience. Every film set and every interaction with every co-star, every shot that I give... In fact, I believe life itself is a learning experience, you gain some, you lose some, but every day there are new challenges. That's also the beauty of being an actor, you get to live this life where you get to be so many different people.
Take us through your experience of working with Shah Rukh Khan in Om Shanti Om then and now in Chennai Express?
When I worked with Shah Rukh in my first film, I remember being this really quiet person on the set. I would just park myself next to him and only want to learn and absorb everything that he was telling me because it was my first-ever experience on a film set. I had never seen how films were made. Today that equation is slightly different, we are friends now. I am more comfortable with myself and with him, so I talk a lot more now.
You have this great chemistry with Saif Ali Khan — Race 2 is your fourth film with him. Is it easier working with somebody you have worked with before?
Having done my fourth film with Saif, there is definitely, at some level, a certain sort of comfort, not just on screen but probably off screen too. So I am not as nervous as I would be with a first time co-star.
Will we see you in only glamourous roles?
Not at all.Love Aaj Kal was not a glamorous role; it was a girl-next-door role. So was Break Ke Baad. In fact, the most glamorous role that I have done is the one in Om Shanti Om, because I played a heroine from the sixties and seventies, and Cocktail probably, but that's also because it was shot in London.
Are you hankering for a National Award type of de-glam role?
First of all, I have never understood why people believe that one needs to do a de-glam role to win an award. Does it mean that glamourous roles don't require acting?
Tell me a hair secret that you practise.
I oil my hair as often as possible, and I often keep it overnight and wash it the next morning. My mother forced me to do so years ago, but now I realize how important it is.
Who were you rooting for this award season?
Sridevi in English Vinglish was my favourite for the year, I am a bit disappointed that she hasn't won any of the awards so far.
