Chapter Five - The Argument

I walked my mother to the door as she was leaving.

"Madhu, don't forget the wedding cards!"

She smiled at me as I attempted to genuinely smile back.

"Bye ma, tell papa I say hi."

"Your papa will probably be angry I came here without him! But I'll let him know! Bye beta."

I waved as she walked away.

I turned and started walking back towards my room. I began thinking about how to tell them the truth. How to explain our marriage. How to explain that I fell in love with the guy who I had thought ruined my life...how...

"Madhu?"

I glanced up and realized I had reached our room. There stood RK in front of me with a confused expression on his face.

He placed his hands on my shoulders and looked me in the eyes.

"Something wrong?"

I put on a bogus smile and answered him.

"No, no. I'm just really happy. I just saw ma and you two..."

"Biwi, are you trying to lie to me? ME? RK the superstar?!"

I stared up at him with a stunned face as he looked through my fake smile. He tapped on my cheek, where my dimple usually surfaces as I smile.

"When you're upset, your dimple doesn't show much in your smile. Now tell me what's wrong biwi."

I couldn't help but let a real smile cross my face.

He knew so much about me now...little things like that. He knew when I was happy and when I was sad. He had begun to know every little thing about me.

I pushed myself into his arms and felt comfort as he wrapped his arms around me. He kissed my head and spoke softly.

"Now that was a Madhu smile! Keep that on your face, it suits you."

I laughed into his chest quietly as I let a few tears roll down.

"I love you RK."

"Arey, someone's getting emotional."

He laughed and I pulled away to look up at him.

"Why? You don't love me?"

He looked down at me and smiled passionately. He looked into my eyes.

"Just needed to look into these beautiful eyes before I told you I love you more than myself."

I felt my mouth open slightly in awe.

RK loved me more than HIMSELF?! I never knew that was possible. Don't blame me...I bet none of you figured it was possible either.

He gently closed my mouth shut with his finger and continued talking.

"I thought you knew that?"

"I do now..."

I smiled and pulled back in for the hug. I figured the timing was perfect. I had to talk to him about it. I spoke into his chest.

"RK...I need to ask you something."

"Ask away."

"It's about ma and papa..."

"Mhm?"

"I was wondering..."

I had to pull away to look at his expression before I mentioned anything further.

"Wondering what biwi?"

I stared at him for a moment before blurting it out.

"How are we going to tell ma and papa the truth about how we met?"

"I thought we told them biwi."

"I mean...about...our wedding..."

I was quite pained by the expression that crossed RK's face. It wasn't a happy one...in fact it was the complete opposite.

He pulled us out of our hug completely and placed his hands on my shoulders. He shook me slightly.

"Have you gone crazy Madhu?! You want to tell them the truth?"

"Yes! I'm not starting a new relationship based on lies."

"You won't be! Your relationship's starting with me. And there are no lies between us...at least I hope not."

"There aren't RK, but I can't move on without telling them the truth."

"Madhu!"

He turned around and ran his hand through his hair as though he were frustrated.

I remained silent and watched him stand with his back towards me.

He didn't say a word...I figured he was waiting for me to say something, so I did.

"I won't marry you until they know the truth."

There was complete silence from his end for a moment. Then he slowly turned and walked towards me. I didn't budge.

He leaned in close, which helped me notice the anger and worry in his eyes.

Then he spoke coldly.

"If they find out the truth...there will be no wedding."

He let me go and stormed out of our room to leave me thinking.

I stood there lost in thought.

I remember thinking, did he mean that he wouldn't marry me if I told them the truth or did he mean they wouldn't let me marry him if they found out the truth?

There was only one question on my mind...which one did he mean?
