Can cousins marry in th islamic society?..and...

Ok...today 2 vital questions need to be answered , as they are bothering me..

I feel like Rahid was married to Dilshad, then married Shireen. He had two wives at the same time, all cohabiting together. That's why Asad said he taught Ayaan to walk. I think later on "mamu" told him to divorce Dilshad, and they think he did, however, he probably didn't. He just stayed separated from her for 17 years...

Yes, first cousin marriage is permissible within Islam. Cousin marriage was practiced among the Arabs. It was an accepted practice among Jewish and Christians as well. You could not marry the following; however, parents, siblings of your parents, and grandparents (of course), unrelated partners of your uncles and aunts are frowned upon.

However in the UK, a number of studies among Pakistani families and Muslims have revealed some horrific cases of genetic problems and families are encouraged to stop this practice. Several medical articles have been written as well. As generations continue to engage in this, problems do occur. That is why in our own family we have stopped cousin marriage.

Cousin marriage was done to preserve land, wealth etc.

In this story Ayaan is NOT related to Humaira by blood. Mumujaan is only a brother by name...they share no blood relationship.

2.Secondly, do any of you know for sure if rashid divorced dilshad?..Because,if he did--then he does not have 2 wives at all..so why at all this hungama?..also..Ayaan is elder to Najma,right?...how is it possible if rashid divorced dilshad that they had a child after he married second time...?

and if he's still married to dilshad,then he's as per your views he is not taking care of both his wives as per religion laws,right?and,plus then razia can't have problem in rashid meeting dilshad as he's still her husband,or wht?--

Very good points. Even if Rashid had chosen to marry Shireen while staying married to Dilshaad, he would a) have to get her consent and b) honor them (and the children) the same. If Rashid has not done this, then he has violated the law of remarriage. Therefore Razia and Mamujaan should not forbid Rashid from meeting with Dilshaad or the kids.

If he divorced Dilshaad then yes, he does NOT have two wives, so reason for the commotion. Plus, in Islam if two wives are accepted, then why is Hasina throwing at tantrum and making an issue out of it?

These questions intrigue me...its really getting confusing...can anybody help?

i dnt knw much but no one of rashid or dilshaad has confiirmed the divorse thing yet

I'm not well educated on Islam myself but Laila rightly pointed out that genetic issues do crop up when cousins marry each other. But of course, Ayaan and Humaira and not cousins at all. Shireen isn't really Mamujaan's sister. He just calls her his sister. It like you calling your best friend a sister. Not biologically related.

Yes cousins can marry each other! Depends on your caste!
