Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor are reportedly getting combative on sets of Ali Abbas Zafar's film
Much as they would like the world to believe they are brothers-in-arms, the simmering tension between Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor, both lead actors of Ali Abbas Zafar's Gunday, hasn't escaped a majority of the unit members.
Apparently, the two behave like warring outcastes on location, constantly indulging in a game of one-upmanship over the other."It's really funny to see two men behaving like this. We had heard of female co-stars being competitive to the extent of looking at each other's clothes and dialogues rather than their own.But this is the first such instance of two male actors being so competitive," said a source from the sets.
So much so, Ranveer and Arjun have ensured getting an equal number of scenes, dialogues, songs, and romantic numbers with the leading lady Priyanka Chopra, in the bargain, driving the director up the wall.
With both Ranveer and Arjun being YRF proteges, a source from the production house opined there is nothing wrong with their being competitive on the sets. "That suits Ali Abbas Zafar's plans just fine. In the film, Ranveer and Arjun play warring goons from the 1980s a la Shatrughan Sinha and Vinod Khanna in Gulzar's Mere Apne but far more combative. If they are taking their roles so seriously, give them credit for dedication to their characters," the source said, quickly adding that the cold vibes between the two men had nothing to do with their being in character. "It's basically a territorial thing. Ranveer was Aditya Chopra's blue eyed boy until Arjun came along in Ishaqzaade . Now is Ranveer's chance to be one up on Arjun," the source said.
And, it isn't just about the actors' place vis-a-vis the YRF banner that introduced them.
The other reason for their not being comfortable with each other is Arjun's growing proximity to Ranveer's alleged girlfriend Anushka Sharma.
