Time is never enough to spend with ones loved ones. There is always something else that is pending and needs immediate attention that literally steals one away. This is exactly how Ahem has been feeling.
When he returned home he was so excited to see Gopi that he so willingly greeted her. He enquired about Meera from her. This tells us that he had been thinking of her all through the day at the office.
He wants to hold his child, talk and play with her, but there was a pressing meeting to attend. His next best thing to do was to ensure that she was comfortable before he left by keeping her warm with a blanket and closing the window. His reluctance to leave was so evident that his feet slowed down as he walked away from her. He came to an eventual standstill just outside their room.
This kind of Ahem would remind us of what he would have been like when he was younger returning from primary school. He would have run to his mother just to be with her and to have interesting conversations of the day's happenings. Similarly he displayed this when his heart was fluttering for his wife but he had a lump in his throat. One scene that comes to mind was the tea scene when he returned early home and Gopi had made tea not knowing that it was for him. He willingly accepted it and this left Gopi looking at him in surprise.
Returning home for Ahem is where his heart resides as his loved ones are there. When he looks at Meera he is reminded of his Gopi. The love he exudes on Meera mirrors the love he has for his Gopi.
