The hopeful Geet who had entered the party was miles away from how she felt now.

Suddenly very tired from this constant fight between her heart and mind, she had had enough. Excusing herself, she walked out of the hall, wanting this nightmarish night to just come to an end.

Images flashed across her mind, bringing along a pain so intense that she felt like a thousand needles were pricking throughout her body.

Her husband and Sameera.

Why did Maan take such intense pleasure in denouncing her love? Why did he always shatter her pride and emotions? Did her love mean nothing to him?

Her eyes were dry, no tears left to shed. She didn't see anyone around her; and just started walking along the lonely path, despair clutching her heart, uncaring that she was garnering attention in her attire.

Someone called out to her, but she was so lost in her misery that she couldn't even hear her name being shouted over and over again.

Rahul, who had seen her walking off alone got worried and immediately called Maan to inform him.

She stepped out of the venue intending to call a taxi when she felt him next to her. Irony was that she couldn't hear Rahul even though he was shouting for her, but she could sense Maan's proximity without him having to even utter a sound.

Absently she started walking to escape his proximity, not even looking to see if he was following her.

"Geet! Geet!" He called after her. "Kaha jaa rahi ho?" Maan was beside her with quick strides, demanding angrily. He had been scared when Rahul called him to tell him about Geet, and seeing her now, not responding to him was making his simmering temper burn. How could she be so careless as to just walk away in the night alone! Thank god Rahul had seen her. Seeing the looks being cast on her, he glared at the felon and tried to cover her with his coat, only to be pushed away. He furiously grabbed her hand angry at her refusal to heed his words. "Chalo mere saath!" His tug on her hand was painful but not as painful as the distrust he always showed her.

"Mujhe aapse koi baat nahi karni. Please just leave me alone Maan. For once in my life I want to be left alone." Her voice almost broke but she refused to cry in front of him. Seeing his angry avatar tonight was the last thing she wanted.

"Geet, yeh kya pagalpan hai? Bahoot raat ho chuki hain, chalo." Not letting go of her hand he pulled her again. His harsh words and anger from earlier were pouring oil on the flames in which she was seeing her future dissolve. Having had enough she stood straight and glared at him, "I said leave me alone. Please Maan, aaj ke liye bakhsh dijiye. I have had enough for a day!"

Just as Geet pulled her hand back, she looked around and found a cab waiting just a few paces away. She rushed before he could stop her and climbed aboard startling the driver. She gave her address to the driver and without glancing back asked the driver to move. But as soon as he turned the keys and engines roared, the poor driver had another thing coming when he spotted Maan standing right ahead blocking his path. The intense glare of the man in front scared the driver and compelled him to wait for the guy to make a move.

Maan knew it was no use forcing her, the determined set of her stubborn chin proclaimed that she was not going to listen to him. Sighing, he strode to the other side and got in, and signaled the driver to move.

He tried to initiate conversation again, but Geet turned away to the window and keeping her head against the pane, closed her eyes in order to shut him out. By now Maan was livid with rage, but he controlled his ire, not wanting to create a scene in front of the cab driver.

Maan had had an eventful night too. It wasn't easy to see your tainted past stand in front of you, mocking your failures in life just as you were about to start a new chapter in your life. He looked at Geet, was he making a mistake again, trusting a woman?

He was caught up in an emotional vortex, first Sameera and now Geet! His heart screamed at him that the two were as different as chalk and cheese, and his mind also nodded, but his inner fears were too long and deeply embedded to let go.

Was it a sign? The day he had thought to denounce his past, his past had come forward? Confusion warred in his mind, with no answers available. His talk with Dev had made him feel better, but now again he was feeling like that lost little boy, who had had nothing but disappointments in life.

Amidst all this, chasing Geet around was last on his agenda, he once again looked at her, to find her staring out into the dark night into nothingness.

Agreed he shouldn't have shouted her the way he had, but wasn't she at fault too? How can she be angry, when she herself never let him know that her boss was Sameera? So he had misunderstood her, but he was trying to apologize here, wasn't he? But would she listen! No! He cursed all women and their fallacies, his temper increasing in direct proportion. He conveniently forgot about his own fault as once again rational thoughts disappeared from his abused mind. He was running purely on anger and adrenaline now!

He had never taken the effort to find out whom Sameera had married immediately after ditching him, nor that she was Mrs. Chopra now. Had he known, today's fiasco could have been avoided. However, right now Sameera was long forgotten and his full anger was focused on Geet. It felt like a stab of betrayal that Geet would not understand him.

He remembered Dev's words about talking and clearing out things, not letting resentments fester. His BIL was giving him a lecture on marriage when Rahul's phone call had scared the daylights out of him. He would talk to Geet as soon as they reached, he decided firmly.

She got out and tried to pay the taxi driver, but one look from him stopped her. She left without a word while he quickly settled the tab and entered their home with her.

She was about to enter the bedroom but he put his hand out to stop her. "Ek minute Geet, I am not done yet. Listen to me, I am '.."

"But I am done Maan! Completely done for today." She moved his hand out of her way, entered the room and shut the door.

"Why are you behaving like this Geet? Tumne suna nahi maine kya kaha Geet? I just want to talk to you dammit!" He opened the door and followed her in.

She stopped from unpinning her sari and stepping out of her shoes and gave him a look.

"Maan, I am very tired. It has been a long day. Please, it's a request." She did not turn to look at him. The tight control she was keeping on her tears was in the process of dissolving. She bit her lip to stop the tears from pouring while silence reigned.

Her cold withdrawal after all his expectations for the day was the last straw for him. Hope had come in like a summer day only to be crushed out by the storm that followed. He closed his eyes for a moment only to open them again to glare angrily at her back. Still she did not turn to look at him or hear him. "Okay! This is how it will be now, Geet. If you think Maan Singh Khurrana will beg, you have another thing coming!" For a moment looking at her, there was still a tug at his heart but he firmly put a stop to that and slammed out of the room.

Slowly she removed her jewelry to get ready for bed. Her hand reached up to plait her hair when she happened to touch the rose still there. As she took the rose out of her hair sobs engulfed her body. What she had thought would be the new start of their life had turned out to be the death knell of their relationship. She was truly battered, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. She didn't have any more courage to face him, to take this uncertainty. Her confidence had ebbed out, seeing Maan with Sameera.

Maan had never made her any promises; he had always kept himself aloof. It had been her who had woven those dreams. And maybe those dreams would have become reality, for she had seen Maan changing. But Sameera had come in, and Maan still loved Sameera, she deduced.

Sameera was right in whatever she had said.

She was a nobody.

She was someone who nobody wanted. Her own family had not thought twice before carting her off to a man who wanted just a namesake wife. Her husband didn't want her as his wife.

She missed her parents today. "Maa'." It was like the cry from her heart. In all the years that she had lost her mother she did not miss her as much as she did at this moment. She desperately wanted her lap in which she could forget all her hurts for tonight. The only place that she would heal her today and Babaji had taken that away too.

Sleep was far far away for two souls that night.

Maan was pacing in the hall, his thoughts causing him a landslide of emotions. Geet had turned her back on him. Just like last time!

It was tough to take.

He had faced rejection in many faces all his life and yet this seemed the most painful for him. He buried his hands in his hair as he tried to come up with reasons behind her actions.

Why had she not let him know that she worked for Sameera? Just because Dev told her to? Granted that he never inquired about her work too much, or her day, or come to think of it anything about her. Granted that he did not know what she did at CE or any of her co-workers but why did she hide such a big fact from him. He was trying to build a relationship with her and she was hiding facts. Had she not done so, he would have been prepared and not fallen into Sameera's trap. Sameera had cunningly used Geet's ignorance to her advantage. But how would Sameera know that Geet would work there. Maan was getting more and more incensed as his thoughts continued.

And that Sameera! Just seeing her again, reminded him of all the betrayals he had faced. How he hated walking that lane in memory again. It had been a shock to see her face to face. He remembered that moment again when he saw her and she was lashing out at Geet. Remembering Geet's crumpled face and the litany of anger she was facing, he grew angry again. For a moment he had sensed her confidence returning when he had stood by her. So Sameera had not known that Geet was Mrs. Maan Singh Khurana, which surprised him.

Come to think of it, he had not known she was the Mrs. Chopra of CE. His only dealings were with Rahul and since this was a new venture he was not familiar with all the CE board members yet. He realized that he had been terribly unfair to Geet. Could that be the truth of this evening he wondered? No sooner had he thought it, his heart told him that it must have been so.

Didn't Geet have the right to be angry on him, his conscious mocked him.

He rose from his bed and entered her room softly. As he stood by her, he saw her tear stained face in the moonlight. Lifting his finger to her cheeks he gently wiped her tears away. "Sorry Geet, Mujhe tumhe aise daatna nahi chahiye tha. Lekin mai kya karu, kuch jhakm hai jo bharte hi nahi. Aur Sameera ko dekhke, wo wapas tazaa ho gaye." His hands gently cupped the side of her face as he stood there looking down at her. Seeking the warmth of his hand, Geet rested her face in his palm. "I am sorry Geet, just give me this one chance. I will make this all right." He softly said again. He stayed there until she changed sides. Quietly he left her room, promising himself that he would fix things in the morning.

The morning sun was quite high in the morning when he arose. It was Sunday so he did not have to rush out to work. The night before flashed in his mind as he arose and he quickly made his way to Geet's room.

Only to find that she was gone.
