In a significant development in the inheritance dispute of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur, his mother, Rani Kapur, has approached the Delhi High Court against her daughter-in-law Priya Sachdev and Karisma Kapoor’s children, Samaira and Kiaan. Rani Kapur claimed that she only became aware of the alleged fraud after her son’s death in June 2025.

According to the petition, Rani Kapur alleged that the parties created a “fraudulent family trust” to unlawfully take control of her son’s estate. She described the RK Family Trust, also referred to as the Rani Kapur Family Trust, as illegal, unregistered, and null. The suit claims that her family legacy was being redirected into this trust without her consent or knowledge.

The petition also highlights that Rani Kapur was allegedly denied access to company information. She claims her official email was compromised and that a new email ID was reportedly used to make major changes to the company’s management and the trust structure, all without her awareness. Through the legal action, she seeks to restore her estate and family legacy to its original status before the establishment of the disputed trust.

This move comes shortly after Priya Sachdev filed a criminal defamation case against her sister-in-law, Mandhira. The case alleges that Mandhira made statements across podcasts, social media platforms, and media interviews containing false claims, insinuations, and personal attacks presented as facts, despite ongoing judicial proceedings.

The family dispute over Sunjay Kapur’s assets and will has been ongoing since his death. Karisma Kapoor’s children, Samaira and Kiaan, had earlier approached the Delhi High Court, seeking a share of their late father’s estate. Their petition claimed that Priya Sachdev had forged Sunjay Kapur’s will, intensifying the legal battle among family members.

With both civil and criminal proceedings now underway, the inheritance conflict continues to generate attention, reflecting the complexities involved in disputes over high-profile family estates. Legal experts suggest that the resolution may take time, given the overlapping claims and contested validity of trusts and wills.

The Delhi High Court is yet to provide a hearing date for Rani Kapur’s latest petition. Observers note that the case could set precedents for how family trusts and inheritance disputes are managed in India.
