'RANG DE BASANTI' FOR OSCARS

The judge's panel comprising filmmakers Basu Chatterjee, Kalpana Lajmi and N. Chandra, music director Aadesh Shrivastav and scriptwriter Ved Rahi have justified the selection of 'Rang De Basanti' for the movie's nomination to the Oscars. They maintain that the movie has successfully weaved historical facts with a contemporary theme. And, the movie's plot fits smoothly between the past and the present. That's why 'Rang De Basanti' has excelled over others. 'Lage Raho Munna Bhai' had come close but it was 'RDB' that was ultimately chosen in view of all other aspects, including the music.

The judges also found it interesting that the film puts across a message -'clean up your own mess', it is learnt. 'Rang De Basanti' is going to be Aamir Khan's second film to make it to the Oscars after 'Lagaan'. Producer Ronnie Screwala says, "I am delighted that 'Rang De Basanti' has been chosen as India's official entry to the Academy Awards. 'RDB' has made a place for itself in the hearts and minds of millions of people around the world. Such movies come along only once in a generation and we shall make every effort to ensure it is seen by a wide audience internationally too. To enable this, we are already planning a mainline release in the United States in association with two major studios." Following the rousing reception the film received at the Golden Globes jury screening, he feels confident that 'RDB' will be through with the Academy.
