I don't have the energy to handle two women: Imran

Mumbai, Dec. 1 -- A few months ago, Imran Khan ventured into unknown territory when he signed up for Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola (MKBKM). The actor has only been seen in urban roles so far. Now, for the Vishal Bhardwaj film, he has gone all out to shed his city-boy image. He spares some time from his schedule to talk to us about the film, why uncle Aamir Khan has not watched all his movies, and how he is not ready to become a father.

You once said that doing this film has been tough for you.

Vishal lets his actors be. He gives them a lot of liberty. He'll say things like, 'I trust you, do something good'. And that's scary; which is why my confidence level as an actor, before and after I've finished the film, is dramatically different.

You attended a two-month workshop to prepare for your role and pick up the Haryanvi accent. What did you learn from it?

I knew nothing about Haryanvis when I started. The biggest misconception about them is that they are unfriendly and uncultured. None of that is true. They just have a very sarcastic sense of humour.

Describe working with Pankaj Kapur.

He builds his character in his mind. He doesn't show you anything during the rehearsals. Then, during the take, his performance will erupt.

Anushka too I had never met before I started shooting for MKBKM, but I always knew she was a remarkable actor.

Did you ever ask Aamir for advice regarding this film?

Nobody can advise you on these things. He (Aamir) hasn't even seen most of my films. He has never read a single script of mine or met any of my producers or directors.

This is the third time you will lock lips with your co-star on screen. Are you the next serial kisser?

I've never thought about it. It hasn't been my ambition so far. But I don't understand why it becomes something to talk about. A few days ago, I read a story about someone who will be seen in a bikini for the first time. I was like, 'Is this really newsworthy?' (laughs). I think kissing is awkward as it's an intimate act done with another actor.

You've been acting since 2007, but your 2011 release, Delhi Belly, is considered your best film to date.

It was probably the easiest role I've ever done and I'm most proud of it. It was not a challenge. My character's sensibilities were very close to my real self. For me, I Hate Luv Storys (2010) was a bigger challenge than Delhi Belly.

Some of your contemporaries manage to stay in the news a lot more than you because of controversies. Do you miss the

attention?

I don't have the bandwidth to process controversies. Fighting with people and having affairs requires a lot of time and dedication. I live with one woman and handling her is enough. I don't have the energy for two women.

You will have been married for two years this January. Have you thought of becoming a father?

No plans yet. I am 29 years old. Having kids is a very hands-on responsibility. It's not something I can do in my spare time between schedules. Men should only become fathers when they have ample time to dedicate to their children. Otherwise it's

not fair to your kids.
