How is it not an insult to say Bollywood has a long way to go because they're not like Hollywood which casts black actors in black roles? I just pointed out that they don't do that always either. Race relations are huge political issue due to America's past of slavery and the civil rights struggle. They used to paint white actors faces black and make them do the roles. It's became an ugly issue when black actors existed but didn't get any roles. That's why it's such a big deal now if they do such things. And yet it happens sometimes like the Angelina Jolie example. It happens FREQUENTLY with other races though, like Indian and other Asians and Latinos because there is no big history of abuse related to them.
In India's case, there is not any huge political issue over it so it's not a big deal. It's also very difficult to even find actors with the East Asian/mongoloid features that Mary Kom has. If there were actors like that available but were getting bypassed for Priyanka, it would make sense to complain. They can have auditions to try to get someone new but it would incredibly hard. Not only that, the film would be a certified flop even before it began. Films can't be made for charity.I just don't think there is any comparison to be made with Hollywood in this instance. BW definitely has a long way to go in other things like scripts but not something like this.
I dont know what the problem is. But somehow I cant imagine HR and KKK the supposed cast in those roles. There was an article on the film being stalled. Maybe its everything-cast, script and money involved.Originally posted by: chocolover89
Shreya I thought Meluha was stalled because they're still not ready with the script? ...or is it because they can't find a suitable actress for Sati?

I'm not touchy about Bollywood at all. I'm sorry but that comment sounded so pretentious and condescending. 😕
Priyanka to play Mary Kom-- Hollywood would not do that. Bollywood has a long way to go.Um.They did it a lot with black actors. They don't do it now so much because it's too delicate a political issue. They still do it very very frequently with other races like Asians.BW needs to improve on a lot of things but that Hollywood comment in this case was just bizarre. JMO. Anyway I'm out, this was way too much time in this topic. 😆
