Manasi Salvi in black and in colourful wear

Manasi Salvi is heaving a sigh of relief. Her dark, dreary world is now splashed with a myriad of colours.

For the past couple of months, Salvi had been draped in black on the SaharaOne show, Sati. She's now broken free to don colourful outfits. "At least now I can be a normal person and wear what I want. Besides, I can also wear some jewellery," says Manasi.

Colour code

Her only problem is that now no one recognises her! They are so used to seeing her in black, she says. "When I started acting in Sati, no one recognised me due to my weight loss. I had last featured in Saarrthi and had managed to knock off more than 10 kgs. So my identity crisis continues."

The reason why Manasi is shedding black is thanks to that proverbial kahaani mein twist. "All this while as Sati, the lawyer, the one-point agenda was only my professional life and taking up the cause for women. Now, Sati will be seen in a new light, on the home front. Her mission at the moment is to care for her sister's child. Her sister is a rape victim. She could not secure justice for her sister, so she has taken the onus of caring for her child."

Rethink

When the show began, Sati writer Kamlesh Pandey (Rang De Basanti) had mooted the idea of her going black as he felt darkness could only fight darkness. "Sati was a victim herself and had vowed revenge. She had chosen to fight back by being a lawyer. She selected black because it in her fight against the dark side of humanity, she wanted to make the darkest colour her style."

Now, it seems the viewership ratings have made Sati do a rethink on her colour code.
