A different streak

We know her for her strong voice and athletic body. She has done a variety of roles, now showing her calibre in Ekta Kapoor's most popular flick on Indian television. Karam Apna Apna is the latest in her kitty where she claims to play something 'different'. Nidhi Mittal talks to the lady

Tell us something about your character in Karam Apna Apna?

I play a very practical lady, Nikhila, in the serial. I am this mom-in-law, with shades of grey. Nikhila can do anything that is good for her family. The character, in a sense, has more positive shades. Among the 35-odd characters that I have played in my career, this is something that stands apart.

What kind of rapport do you share with Ekta Kapoor?

Ekta and I share a very professional relationship. But Balaji is always a priority when it comes to choosing roles. I have worked in Kahani, Kyunki and now Karam Apna Apna. So, it's like a home to me.

What do you do in your free time?

The shooting schedules keep me busy most of the time. Right now we're shooting 18 hours a day. So, no free time as such, but I love cooking. I can cook all kinds of food. Basically, I feel hungry very fast, so I cook everything and I eat everything.

So, what keeps you fit, if you eat everything?

I was a national athlete. I am used to working out on a regular basis. I somehow take time out for my exercises from this busy schedule as that's the only way I can eat whatever I want to. Otherwise, I'll have to put a check on my diet. Also, I have to sleep well to look fresh. Apart from this, I am also very particular about the kind of make-up I use. I am particular about brands. The subject interests me and I am also associated with a cosmetic brand.

Your favourite shopping destination.

I am not at all a city person. I shop on net, which is convenient. If I have to go out somewhere, then I go out of Mumbai itself. I can't stand so much crowd.
