Sorry for getting into your discussion with Bharatiji. Had to make a point here. Bhabo does not agree to IPS because of the following reasons which you and I have stated.

1. The dress to start with

2. the transfers

3 the danger to life

4. the lack of family life

5 the separation from her son

6 the postponement indefinitely of starting a family

7. the likely inferiority complex her son may develop. These are real and genuine fears which even an urban family will have if their DILs think of civil services. Bhabo believes that her son is not far sighted enough to think of all this and so he is demanding his wife's education. She as an elder should dissuade him as later even if she grants him permission he will repent for having encouraged Sandhya. She in her hearts of hearts truly believes she is acting in the interest of her son. Even at a later stage when she is shown to be agreeing it will be with lot of apprehensions. I some how do not think it is only societial pressures alone which has prevented her from agreeing. That is only one reason not the only reason.

UMDU we have talked about all that you have mentioned above several times and those are the worries of any mother and Bhabho is a mother and loves her son and will think like a mother i have not denied the fact that she has those insecurities.

But she also gives a lot of importance to what other people say and think in her community and her neighbothood as she often talks about Ghar ki laaj and Ghar ki Izzat .

Please dont misunderstand but I have said many times that Bhabho has many insecurities and some of them stem from her need to be accepted by her society
