Some members were debating about what was the Mantra that Sidhu Paa ji chanted as the ladies lit Garba in yesterday's episode.

I was posting randomly when the episode was aired yesterday and didn't really pay attention that time.

Just now checked the recording of episode again and for those who are interested, he chanted the following Mantra which is in honour of Goddess Durga:

"Om Sarva Mangala Mangalye, Shive Sarvartha Sadhike Sharanye Trayambake Gauri Narayani Namo-stute"

Oh Gauri Maa! Consort of Lord Shiva,

You who bestows auspiciousness on all,

And fulfills everyone's wishes,

I prostrate myself before Thee,

Take me under your care

... and the one that Sayantani and Ashka chanted was:

YA DEVI SARVA BHUTESHU SHANTI RUPENA SANSTHITHA NAMASTASYAI NAMASTASYAI NAMASTASYAI NAMOH NAMAH

Salutation again and again to the Devi
Who abides in all beings in the form of PEACE

So that's what the uproar was all about. This mantra is quite common and familiar for people to know of it. I thought our Sadhu baba chanted something more complicated to be compared to someone knowledgeable in this department. This mantra can be recited even by kids that's how common it is. Oh well.

Please help me here. Since I am not a Hindu, I'd like to ask this. Did he read the correct mantras for the occasion? As far as I know, every pooja in the Hindu faith has a certain mantra or shlokas, depending on the occasion of the prayer. The one he read, I've heard it one too many times on Ekta's serials. So I was wondering if he was bragging about his knowledge of the shlokas, or if he actually knew what he was reciting.

Somebody please clarify, so we all could learn a thing or two. Thank you.

I would love to answer, but I am not the best person here. Usually such Poojas and Shlokas are performed by Hindu priest, so I, myself, know only handful of shlokas including the one Sadhu baba recited. This mantra has been used repetitively on many TV shows just like "Ek Onkar" especially on Ekta Kapoor's shows.

The translation includes Gauri Maa, who has many forms, including Durga, Chandi, Kali and Uma. So since it was Navratri, which is celebrated for the same Goddess, I would say yes it is applicable to be used here. But then again, I would say on any auspicious occasion this mantra can be used, so I don't think there is any right or wrong answer when Siddhu used it. But it doesn't impress me since he only recited this one mantra which is very commonly heard on the media nowadays. He didn't seem to know the other mantra recited by Sayantani except for bits and pieces. So again, I doubt his knowledge of mantras here.

Thank you for your kind reply.

During any festival, certain shlokas are chanted commonly. Since Navrathri is dedicated to worshipping the Goddess, this common shloka was apt for the occasion.

And Siddhu paaji, as is his wont, took a common shloka and recited it in a bombastic way to impress everyone 😃

Although I have heard shloks through serials hundred times...I find them familiar but I cannot recite them as fluently as Sidhu paaji did...
And one should not categories religious sayings as easy ones or difficult one..beacuse what is imp is their meaning and their implementation in our daily lives...
