If you grew up at a certain time in India and enjoyed the regular Bollywood films, you loved AB and all that he stood for. He's been a tour-de-force, and some of his scenes/lines are an integral part of my love affair with Indian cinema. For all of that, I'm a fan. I've also read/heard that he is very punctual and has always been on the sets on time. Given how easy it is for superstars to misbehave, or at least not be punctual, and get away with it, I respect this trait of his.
As for the whole brand Bachchan, and the family paraphernalia, not interested. And I find it truly ironic that the son of the man who gave us the immortal lines "pandit, momin, padriyon ke fandon ko jo kaat chuka, kar sakti hai aaj usika swagat meri madhushala" should be lauded for being religious.
