Around August, the promos of JOKER were being shown on television. Despite being Akshay's next film after Blockbuster ROWDY RATHORE, the promos of JOKER were not clicking with the public, and the film eventually turned out to be a "joke". However, while the promos of JOKER were being met with a lukewarm response, the promos of another Akshay film were also being shown, and the promos for this film were actually creating buzz! The promos for the film, OH MY GOD.
Coming to the point right away: No, OH MY GOD is not an Akshay Kumar film. It is more of a Paresh Rawal film. However, Akshay has produced the film, and has also shown much more interest in this project than he did for JOKER. The interest can be seen from the fact that Salman Khan was roped in to do the voiceover for the first promo, Sonakshi and Prabhu Deva were roped in to do be a part of the now popular Govinda song, and the promos of the film have been shown a lot over the last many weeks.
Upon seeing the promos, I feel that there is a certain "buzz" about the film that will make it click. The promos show Paresh Rawal in the comedic way that audiences have loved him for over the years. His interactions with Akshay seem interesting and crowd-appealing. The "Govinda" song featuring Prabhu Deva and Sonakshi has become popular as well. Also, the whole God-related story also seems crowd-appealing.
So, do I think that OH MY GOD will work at the box office? The answer is, yes!
For Paresh, the film will be similar to ATHITHI TUM KAB JAAOGE, where he will get to showcase his entertaining side a lot throughout the film. That is what made ATHITHI click with the audience and made it do decently well at the box office. Of course, Ajay Devgan was there too and his chemistry clicked with Paresh, and the same will happen with Akshay-Paresh in OH MY GOD. Let's not forget, Akshay/Paresh have done SO many films together. MOHRA, HERA PHERI, PHIR HERA PHERI, AWAARA PAAGAL DEEWANA, DEEWANE HUYE PAAGAL, GARAM MASALA, DE DHANA DAN, etc. the list goes on!
As for the opening of OH MY GOD, the film will have a strong opening (for reasons mentioned above in my post). The opening will be better in mass circuits.
My box office predictions for OH MY GOD:
Opening Day: 7.50 crores net
Opening Weekend: 28 crore net
Lifetime Collections: 55 crore net
Overall Box Office Verdict: Hit
The one to benefit the most from this film will be Paresh Rawal. I'm sure his acting will win him accolades and make him even more respected than he already is!
Akshay can have a sigh of relief after the disasterous fate of JOKER, well, if he even cared about it!😆. OH MY GOD will bring a smile to his face.
