Dear Priya,

Please call me Shyamala. I am nearly 25 years older than you are, but not quite an old fossil yet, so I can see where you are coming from. The bit about the Vegas marriage had me in splits -I remembered the Kareena-Imran film, Ekk main aur ek tu, not that I liked that one, with her father asking her oh so casually if she had been carrying on with Imran. I cringed at what young directors seem to think of as hep.

I agree that Arjun needs a break from BOTH girls, and for keeps. That will at least spare people like me, who really had a lot of affection for him (my own son is just a little older, which must be my sole excuse for getting involved with a virtual (pun intended) idiot!), the spectacle of him making a steadily worse fool of himself.

But with the whole shebang now moving their caravan to India, where he is to go beats me.He is pretty much dependent on his father, and besides, he does NOT want to go away from Purvi. I do not know what he thought marrying Ovi was going to be like, nor if he at all understands what he wants of Purvi now. He is no 21 year old after his degrees and having worked for his dad for years; he must be 25, and this is not too young for responsibility. If he carries on like this ambushing Purvi at every bus stop, the consequences for her will be less than pleasant. Of course she will never think of moving elsewhere, so we can look forward to more of languishing glances and slo..oo...w walks away from each other, as the TRPs continue on the way up, thus reinforcing the case for more of the same. You see how the vicious circle works?

As for an annulment, unless it is by mutual consent, it is not possible legally. The same for a divorce. A contested divorce suit would leave Arjun in a Trishanku type situation for years. Alas that he did not marry Ovi in Vegas!!

Thank you for replying inspite of your troublesome wrist. I feel I should introduce myself - I am Priya.

As a woman in her late thirties, all blinkers about romantic love have long been dispensed of. What I definitely object to is this notion of settling into something for your entire life because you made a bad decision one night. It is almost like the Vegas wedding you had with your cousin because you were drunk.

I think Arjun and Purvi are meant to be the modern Archana and Manav where the older (forgive the expression) couple needed the security of not being married to others, the youngsters dont.

I am also not proposing a union with Purvi for Arjun either. Purvi needs a lot of growing up as a woman before she is close to a man. Her vulnerability makes her irresistible but she is infact a dangerous combination. All I am saying is, as the party that was caught completely offguard by the woman he loves, Arjun deserves a fair chance at happiness. This begins with a legal separation from his forced spouse. He then needs a change of scenery and some time to collect his thoughts about his life. Then, should he decide to come back to Ovi, he should. If he decided to pine for Purvi, he could with no guilt.

This label of marriage is not helping but only hurting - so effectively its a weapon that needs to be annulled 😛
