Hello to all you of you. Hope you all are doing well. I'm really sorry that I haven't updated in such a long time. It wasn't intentional. I had some tests, still have tests but the real reason was that I injured my back; it really killed the happiness in my life, still struggling with the back pain a little bit. As a result some chucks of this update have been written during physiotherapy sessions.
And I really have no idea when I will be updating "The First Kiss" next. Honestly, trying very hard to write that, but its just not coming. I guess I'm just in Rimar mode right now and so not able to get inside Swaron's head. Or them into my headspace. Whatever!
Hope you guys like this. This is dedicated to a special person who opened my eyes to certain things that were happening around here, you know who you are. Thanks a ton!! 😃
Rimar 4
"So guys, there's a bit of a change in the event performances. Vicky and Neha will now do the couple dance." Sharon said to the weaklings, Vicky and Rinni. "I don't think Neha will be able to perform with the weaklings now, so please adjust your choreography according to that."
"But we've already finished choleographing the entire piece. We'll have to ledo the whole piece including the concept, we need two girls." Amar said.
"Take Rinni" Sharon said, "Rinni, you're comfortable with the idea of doing Bollywood, right? Then it's settled, I'll meet you guys here in two hours, till then Rinni and Neha, you both learn as much of the new routine as you can. We'll reconvene here at 1 o'clock and take it from there."
"But we have class, Sharon." Vishakha interrupted.
"Babu and I have no problem in missing class." Neha beamed, holding onto Vicky's hand.
"I don't have a problem in missing class either, I can teach Rinni while everyone else is in class. That is if Rinni doesn't have a problem with missing a class either." Amar said, tried to sound confident while silently praying that she say yes.
"Uh, yeah. No, no problem." Rinni stammered, starting to get really suspicious at the turn of events taking place around her.
"Great! So I'll meet you guys in two hours, watch you perform the basics and we'll see how it goes from there." Sharon said and walked out of the rehearsal hall, without waiting for a response and the rest of the dancers following her. Rinni stared at their retreating backs as her heart began to fill with dread, afraid of what was going to happen in the next 2 hours and after that.
She stood still, pretending to observe Vicky and Neha at the far the end of the hall. Panic seized her heart as soon as she heard the music playing. Rinni couldn't fathom how she'd gotten into this situation, last time she'd checked she was doing salsa with Vicky. "How the hell did it turn to Bollywood with Amar?! No, the Weaklings!"
Slowly, she turned around to face Amar to find him looking at Vicky and Neha, a wistful look in his eyes. "Why is he looking at them like that? Is he looking at Neha?" Rinni thought. At the same moment Amar looked at her, a slight frown on his face.
"Is something wrong?" he asked and Rinni shook her head, the frown on Amar's face deepened.
"I think we should start" he said, his tone firm and slightly scary for Rinni.
"Have you ever done Bollywood before?"
"No, it's my first time." Rinni said apologetically. She was confused by his curt tone, one that she had never heard him use, even when someone was being rude to him at the cafe.
"I really think that we should start now, we've waited long enough." he said, sounding exasperated and impatient.
"Excuse me?" she replied in reflex to his curt tone.
"I mean... Umm... Let's just start." the goofy smile back on his face, as if he wasn't being rude to her just a moment earlier.
All this was just adding to Reni's confusion. "Boys!" she thought furiously, "Unpredictable and moody, exactly all the things that girls are accused of being."
Her heart leapt into her throat as he gestured for her to first observe him. She watched him gob smacked, the clean lines of his body, his movements well defined and incredibly fast. As she watched him perform, she felt her admiration for him grow many fold. She had never seen a man doing such seemingly frivolous movements without any inhibitions whatsoever. And when he stopped, she was left longing for more. He stopped to rewind and then paused the track and she felt increasingly doubtful of her own capabilities. "I have a tough time trying to master new routines of dance forms I have learnt earlier, how will I be able to learn a new dance form with such fast beats and perform on it within such a short time frame?! And what if I'm not able to? What will he think of me when he realizes that I'm as great a dancer as he thinks I am? I'm so screwed!"
"So did you like the choreography?" he asked her nervously, "What I did was not the exact choreography. There are some group movements and lifts in between which I substituted for some random steps as I was dancing alone." he hastily added.
"It was pretty great and with the entire group and lifts, I can only imagine that it'll get better. You guys are really talented." she said earnestly and Amar felt relief wash over him, not realizing until that moment how much her opinion meant to him.
"I'm really glad that you liked it. Do you want to try it on your own now? I'll show you the first count in slow and then you try; we'll do the opening when everyone is present as that will require coordination. Okay?" and Rinni nodded, unable to speak due to her nerves.
She moved to stand on his right, both of them facing the huge mirror when Rinni noticed that Neha and Vicky had left the rehearsal hall, giving her the dignity to face humiliation sans an audience.
"Lets go, 1.. 2.. 3.., watch my feet." Rinni observed him closely, trying to memorize his movements. "Now you give it a try, I'll do it and you follow."
Rinni tried her best to copy his steps to perfection, trying to move her arms and legs at the same angles as his, diligently working her way through the counts.
"Good" he said, two hours later, offering her a bottle of water. Both of them were exhausted after the hour long grilling session that they'd had, with Rinni struggling a bit with a few of the steps, desperately trying to get them right. Amar watching her fraught expressions with worry but not making any advances to correct her, just guiding verbally, lest he scare her away. Despite the struggle, he could tell that she had tremendous potential in her to do better but he didn't think today was the day to give her his honest opinions. And anyway, with her attention to detail and sincerity, she was making better progress than most people at their very first attempt at Bollywood would do.
"Seriously? That was hardly any good! I'm still learning the basics, how will I be able to perform an absolutely new dance form in such a short span of time?" Rinni said exasperatedly as she all but snatched the bottle from his hand.
Amar watched with satisfaction as he saw her gulp down the water, behaving as unreservedly with him as she did with the rest of her friends. He grinned when she thrust the bottle into his hands and stalked back to the mirror, practicing the postures she was unable to perfect earlier.
Amar watched her actions with dismay. "I think that's enough dancing for a while. You should stop, otherwise your body will snap."
"My body doesn't snap, it just refuses to move the way I want it to." She mumbled and sat down, a defeated expression on her face and Amar cursed himself for being so insensitive.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you; I just thought your body would be strained after taking in so much new information in one go." Amar said, apologetically. And Rinni returned to her former restrained self, the persona that she almost always slipped into whenever Amar was around. Sitting on the floor with her eyes lowered, not breathing, not saying anything and just sitting.
Amar sighed with despair.
"Hello, we're back." Neha said brightly as she entered the room, announcing her arrival. "My Babu and I are ready with our dance."
"I've already called Sharon and Swayam, to get this party started." Vicky added, cheerfully.
"Oh my God" Rinni muttered inaudibly, shutting her eyes and preparing herself for the humiliation she was convinced she would have to endure.
"Hey guys" Rinni heard Sharon's voice and her eyes snapped opened, her anxiety level going through the roof. "Why don't we just cut to the chase? Vicky and Neha, lets start with you."
Neha ran to the music system and put a CD in and ran back to Vicky, both of their backs facing the mirror. Much to Rinni's surprise, the same song that Amar had played for the Bollywood piece blared through the speakers and she watched them astounded as they performed the very same steps that Amar was teaching her barely ten minutes ago.
"How was it?" Neha asked breathlessly after they finished doing all that they had practiced.
"What the hell was that?" Sharon thundered with a murderous look on her face.
"That was Bollywood, my Kaagu taught me her favourite dance form. Isn't she a great dancer, Sharon?" Vicky asked Sharon while pulling Neha's cheeks. Rinni watched him, dumbfounded. She just couldn't fathom that the person in front of her who was behaving like a juvenile teenager was the same person who was talking like a grown up adult in the morning.
"You guys were supposed to do Salsa, not Bollywood. Weren't you listening to me when I said that you were going to do salsa together and Rinni will join the Weaklings for the Bollywood piece?" Sharon's voice rose as her temper reached its peak and threatened to explode that too violently, putting Vicky and Neha in a potentially physically harmful situation.
Swayam just to the rescue as all four of them looked at him pleadingly, silently begging him to take control of the situation, more precisely, control Sharon. "But I think that was a great performance by Vicky, he learnt all that in just two hours, that counts for something."
"Shut up, Swayam." Sharon countered, clearly not falling into the trap of Swayam's tactics. "I needed two Bollywood dancers and two Salsa dancers, now I just have four Bollywood dancers. I want two salsa dancers, stat." she all but screeched.
"Relax, Sharon." He said and Sharon glared at him. "Just give me a minute to try and make sense of the situation." And Sharon looked away, keeping quiet but her face still betrayed the rage she felt and Rinni knew that Vicky and Neha would not hear the end of this. "So as far as I can tell, Vicky and Neha have done more than 90% of the choreography. How much have you guys covered, Amar?"
"We've covered it till this step" he replied as he showed Swayam the last movement he had taught her.
"That's just half of the piece. Well, since you guys have covered more, why don't you join us for the Bollywood dance?" he said, turning to Vicky.
"Yes" the couple chorused. "Awww' My babu will dance with me, sho shweeet" Neha said enthusiastically. Neha pulling Vicky's cheeks this time and Sharon scoffing with disgust.
"This means that Rinni, you're back to salsa. I hope that's okay with you?" Swayam asked Rinni and she nodded in response immediately, just relieved that she no one else would ever see her doing Bollywood again. Though she wished she had never had to learn Bollywood like this, that too from Amar, a disaster had been mitigated. She was so focused on her relief that she wouldn't have to face embarrassment in front of Amar, she forgot that she didn't have a partner yet. Luckily, Swayam didn't.
"So I guess Amar will be her partner. Is that cool with you, Amar?" Swayam said, having a tough time trying to bite back a smile.
"Yeah." Amar muttered, trying to keep his delight to himself. And Rinni struggled not to panic publically, the situation just getting worse according to her, and she had no way of changing it.
"See Sharon, problem solved." Swayam said to Sharon. "Now you have two salsa dancers and an entire team of Bollywood dancers. Happy?"
"Whatever. Practice starts tomorrow guys. I don't want any excuses now." And with that, she walked out of the rehearsal hall.
"I guess I'll see you tomorrow?" Amar asked Rinni hopefully when everyone was filing out of the hall. She nodded her head and fled from him as fast as she could, still trying to process all the changes in that had happened within the span of three hours today. The biggest of all- She would be doing salsa, with Amar!!

That night, Rinni refused to let panic take over as she sat on the floor in her balcony and thought the situation through.
I'm going to be doing Salsa with Amar, I'm the one with the upper hand here because he has very little Salsa experience, I have much more. I'll just choreograph it myself, mold it according to his body's response to the steps and we'll take it from there. I can't flounder in front of him, I need to choreograph and start practicing tonight. Oh God, what if he hates it, hates the way I do salsa. What will I do? I'm going to kill Vicky, aaargh'..
Rinni worked herself up the entire night, worrying and working to choreograph the piece to perfection besides driving up her internet bill by watching a million salsa youtube videos in one night.

"Thanks man, I seriously owe you guys." Amar said sincerely into the phone. He was talking to Vicky and Swayam on conference.
"Yeah dude, you do owe us, big time. Start by giving us free food from the canteen." Vicky joked.
"Yes Amar, lots of free food." Swayam repeated, clearly enjoying taking Amar's case. After all, they'd earned the right.
"Honestly, I don't know whath I would've done withouth you both."
"Relax buddy. You want her, just make it happen." Swayam said earnestly. "It's all going to be worth the effort in the end."
"I hope so" Amar said, trying to keep the optimism buzzing in his heart and hopelessness at bay.
"I'm glad that you're trying to get through to her, but do keep in mind that she's one of my closest and oldest friends, Amar. She's tougher than she looks but don't ever hurt her. I love that girl and I will not let anyone get away with hurting her, ever." Vicky said, a trace of anger in his voice with disappeared when a comforting hand was placed on his shoulder.
"I understand" Amar said guiltily. The gravity of what he was doing hitting him for the first time.
"I have to go. Amar, don't forget what I said." Vicky said as he smiled at the girl in front of him and clicked off his phone.
"So, I guess you owe me too." Neha said mischievously.
"Anything you want" Vicky said as he pulled Neha close.
"A dance?"
"Salsa it is." Vicky said as he spun a laughing Neha in his arms.
