CHAPTER 8 Exchange of SMS

Ashutosh turned back ashamedly to Mallika and gave her a sheepish smile. It was a mixed smile of guilt and anger. What would be his excuse for his act now he was thinking. And what would be my excuse to Nidhi also was coing to his mind. Mallika: " Ashutosh, what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be in your room?" she told him heatedly. Ashutosh: "Mallika ,please, don't forget I'm a doctor and it's my reponsiblity to see if my juniors are doing well especially after what happened today, till Dr Nidhi is in the hospital she is under my responsibility and you know it!!!" he told her exasperatedly. "But Ashutosh, you are also a patient here, and there are doctors here to look after her, why did you bother? And after all I think that all this happened because of Dr Nidhi's irresponsible act of closing the door". Hearing this Nidhi couldn't hold her tears anymore, unknowingly it was flowing down her cheeks and landing softly on Ashutosh hand . He could feel her warm tears on his hand and he couldn't bear it amymore, he couldn't see her crying anymore, she was sobbing hardly by now and God knows how much he wanted to wipe this tears, to cuddle her, to pacify her, but he was so helpless in front of Mallika.She was looking at him remorselessly as if to excuse herself again and again for her stupid act and Ashutosh could understand what she wanted to say by looking at her flushed cheeks even she was not talking and he just rub his finger on her hand to assure her that he understood her. By this touch Nidhi couldn't hold her tears anymore and she started to cry heavily and asked them to leave her alone. Mallika " Dr Nidhi, there's no need to cry now, what is done is done and now it's too late to feel sorry about this, you should be aware that because of this stupid act Ashutosh life could have been in danger may be you don't care about yourself, but I docare about my friend's life but I don'y blame you for this because this is the mentality of people of your generation , childish act and thus putting other's life in danger. Nidhi: "I'm not a child" she could hardly whispered in between her broken voice "and I've already excuse myself in front of Dr Ashutosh, and moreover it was not completely my fault!!!" she replied to her frustratingly. "And if that will make you all happier so I will say it again Sir I'm really sorry for what I've done today, ARE YOU HAPPY NOW so please for god sake just leave me alone" she shouted angrily at them. Mallika : " Dr Nidhi, how dare you talk to your seniors like this, I'll make sure that necessary actions will be taken after your recovery". Ashutosh just couldn't say anything, he could merely hold his tears in seeing her in that condition, she was still sobbing heavily and was pleading to them to leave her alone. Her body started to shake with anger and her face crumpled up. She huffed, opening her mouth to give Mallika a piece of her mind, but before she could talk Ashutosh stood up on the spur of the moment , his voice sounding concerned, " What's going on, will you both please stop arguing, do you people think it's the right time for this?" Ashutosh raises his voice and both women were shocked at his sudden change of humour. He looked at Nidhi, then back at Mallika, who had her eyes locked on him, then back at Nidhi again and understood that this conversation is going to end up badly as none of the two will accept being humiliated and to prevent such situation he asked Mallika to follow her outside, which she did without a second thought.

Ashutosh: "Mallika, what is this at least you are mature enough to understand the situation this girl is right?"

Mallika: "But, Ashutosh she……." Ashutosh didn't give her time to continue.

Ashutosh: " Enough Mallika, at least you be reasonable, you know what she went through and still as an experience doctor you should understand this better than her, do you even think about that both me and her we could have lost our lives there and in this situation that she is you are complaining to her and accusing her, how could you be such incomprehensive towards a patient Mallika this is absolutely not you as long as I know you"

Mallika: " Ashutosh she is responsible for what had happened , you should admit it?"

Ashutosh: "Mallika things didn't go as you think, it was not completely her fault, there is some kind of mine also so please when you are not sure about something please don't comment and more accuse her for being responsible of that"

Mallika: " Ok then now if you tell me what really happened may be I would understand"

Ashutosh was thinking about how he hugged Nidhi and how he kissed her, he could still feel her warm lips on his, her breath on his cheeks, the smell of her shampoo bff each and every single part of her was coming to his thought and how could he tell this to Mallika, is this what she want him to say as it was only this part that he want to remember from that room nothing else. The sudden voice of Mallika calling him brought him out of his dream. " It's Ok Mallika, it's over now and thank god both me and Dr Nidhi are out of danger, this is what really counts and everything else is only mere facts which we should all forget and I don't want to talk about it anymore do you mind?" Mallika fumes while hearing Ashutosh saying this to her, she knew that something was brewing and gave Ashutosh a sarcastic look. What could she ask more, she thought, when he himself doesn't really want to talk about it and it was no use of asking more as she knows him very well. "Ok then if this is what you want" she told him with an ironic smile. Once again Mallika rolled her eyes because she knew that he was actually falling for it and thinking about Ashutosh's age and the fact that he was swooning over ateenage girl,eugh, it honestly made her feel slightly queasy.Mallika ordered Ashutosh to rest now which he promptly agree to do so he turned to her, his face in a scowl and his voice was stuck in a monotone greeted her goodnight and went directly to his room.

Alone in her room Nidhi was thinking about Ashutosh……. He was just a perfect company to have, his face was angelic and his eyes, wow his eyes were so killing. A smile crept across her face, and then it dawned. She was thinking about that kiss that may be she was about to get from him or was it just her imagination. She was feeling quite embarrassed and shy also and was thinking about how she would again face him the next day. She pulled her cover over her head and tries not to think about all this. In his room Ashutosh was thinking about Mallika's word to Nidhi. About how she was accusing her of being so careless even though it was not completely her fault, why he didn't defend her when Mallika was telling her all this harsh words, how could he stay aloof from all this, all this thought was haunting him and he wanted togo back to her room to apologize but was he was reluctant to go back, thinking back about how could he lose control of himself again when he is in front of her, when thinking how he was about to kiss her again once more if Mallika didn't enter, how would he face her again. He closed his eyes as not having any answer to these entire question haunting his sleep each and every time he is alone with her.

Ashutosh was feeling so guilty for not defending her but didn't also have the courage to go to her room to say sorry. He took his phone and sms her " I'm sorry Doc for whatever Mallika tld u, I hpe u know its nt ur fault so plz dnt mind abt wat she said, hve a nice sleep and sweet dreams" and before he could read the message again he already sent it. After receiving message sent on his phone , he realizes that it was the first message he is sending to someone as he never like to use mobile phones only for emergency calls and moreover sending an sms in abbreviation was really like an exams for him, he would rather call the person directly than sending an sms. He couldn't believe it that he sent her an sms and was holding his phone in his hand waiting impatiently for a reply. Nidhi was already asleep when she heard the sms tone and thought that for sure it was Anjie asking how she was feeling. With her eyes half open she grab her phone and started to read the message and great was her astonishment to see it was an sms from Dr Ashutosh. After reading it she was smiling to herself and could feel her cheeks flushing and she was hardly blushing too. Should I answer it or no she was asking to herself after quite hesitting she finally thought that it would be bad manners if she doesn't reply and was thinking what she would write. She is not new to sms she would send hundreds a day to her friends and Anjie but this one should be different she thought as it's not a friendly sms that she'll be sending but one to her senior, to her boss, to her dean to her ………. She stopped right there without wanting so say more than that. After little thought she started to type " It's Ok Sir,no need for you to apologize on behalf of Dr Mallika and I think that she likes you a lot and may be because of my stupid act she might have lose you forever so I think I'm the one that should say sorry to you I'm REALLY SORRY, good night Sir and sweetdreams to you too" and she sent the message. Upon receiving the reply from her, a large smile was creeping on Ashutosh face and was eager to know what she wrote. " Plz Doc, no need to apologize again I tld u, as much as it's ur fault it's mine also so plz stop making me feel guilty by saying sorry again and again". The reply came as follows "But we should admit if I didn't close the door we wouldn't be stuck in" A: "And if I didn't challenge you, you wouldn't close the door and we wouldn't be stuck so it's also my fault" N "If the door we were not stuck I wouldn't be able to be so……………………"she hardly bite her tongue by thinking what she was about to write she was about to tell him that if they were not stuck she wouldn't have the opportunity to get that close to him, to hug him, to feel him and most of all to get this kiss from him but before she could stop the message was already sent. Ashutosh smiled sheepishly while reading her message, he knew what she wanted to say but wanted to pull her legs again, A "Dr Nidhi, finish your sentence plz you wouldn't be able to what?" Nidhi could feel her face flushing heavily and she was blushing harshly and was happy he was not here to see her face. N "nothing sir it was just a wrong message" she just reply timidly.A "Are you sure Doc I'm sure you wanted to say something right?"N " No sir there's nothing like that I told you wrong message" A "anyways Dr Nidhi I will wait for you to finish your sentence later anytime you want and I must tell you that this pouting on your face is very unique, so for now try to sleep little good night" he told him while having a naughty smile on his face. Nidhi could feel her cheeks boiling like hot chocolate and she was blushing heavily thinking about what he said. She didn't want to answer him back by fear that he will ask her again to finish her sentence and she didn't want to delete the messages also but instead was reading them over and over again and blushing again and again while thinking about him telling her to finish her sentence. How could she tell him that how happy she was to be so close to him, to feel him, to hug him and the kiss it was too much from her she would never be able to tell him. God knows what he would think about her. Se closes her eyes and tries to sleep.

The next day both Ashutosh and Nidhi were allowed to leave the hospital after being examined by their respective doctors. Dr Mehta asked Nidhi to be careful in the future and gave her a one day rest. Even Mallika told Ashutosh to rest for a day but he was unwilling to do so. CV and Anjie came to pick up Nidhi from the hospital. Ashutosh decided to go home take a bath and be back at KGH after a few hours as he will be unable to stay home doing nothing. Going towards his car Ashutosh could recognize Nidhi's car infront of the gate and Nidhi was inside at the back seat, he wanted so much to see her but was feeling quite awkward to go infront of her. His heart was pounding so heavily that he could hear it very clearly. God what a feeling it was every time he sees her. What special this girl is that makes him feel like a teenager each and every time she passes in front of him. For sure there should be something about her. Nidhi was looking for him also and she wanted to see him even for a few seconds. She breathed deeply in the hope to see her even for a seconds and was praying for this to happen, her heart was aching to see him, when finally she turned back to see him aDr Ashutosh standing right there and looking at her. She could finally get a glimpse of him while Anjie was driving and he waved a goodbye hand to her with the sweetest smile on his face. She gave him back her sweetest smile and waved him a goodbye and continued to look till she was unable to see him anymore. She felt her heart pounding heavily and tears were filled in her eyes when she was unable to see him and she didn't even realize it when suddenly she could feel the tears falling on her hand that she knew she was crying. She breathed in and remained silent all the way till home when finally her Baba asked her if she was fine as it was not her tendency to stay quiet for more than one minute. She nodded positively and just giving the excuse of feeling quite tired as she was unable to sleep all night at the hospital.
