Beautifully sketched characters. 😊
Quite a refreshing outlook given to some of the boring characters like that of akash, anjali and payal 😆
really looking forward to the Arnav-khushi face off!
P.S. I will be writing most dialogues in English hence forth, please note Buaji, Naniji and Mami will be speaking in Hindi while I write in English.
Shyam had been sitting outside the address provided by Garima Chachi for hours now and was yet to even step out the car. People around had started giving him the looks, he knew how weird he must look to the inhabitants of Laxmi Nagar. Almost after 2 hours of having parked outside the house someone knocked on his window, she was a big woman who carried her frame very well for the age she depicted and he immediately recognized her for Madhumati ji, he rolled down the window of his car and said 'Namastey Aunty' he politely folded his palms in salutation. She smiled and said 'Hai re nand kishore! Shyam babua what are you doing here?' Shyam was out of words, he could enquire about Payal from Madhumati ji, but then he will have to explain his relation for a married man asking for an unmarried woman was never a good sign. On top of that, secrecy had been with him for such a long time now that it didn't even take him more than a minute to come up with an excuse that he was waiting for someone. She invited him over, but he refused on the pretext that he should make his way home and his appointment maybe had cancelled. Fate it seemed was not in his favour to reunite him to his sister.
While it seemed, fate was hell bent on the conversation that was being held behind closed doors of ASR's Cabin.
As soon as Arnav shut the door to his office he pulled Khushi in front of him, almost banging her against the shelf of files. Khushi pulled her hand from his grip all the while keeping her eyes to his flashing ones. Instinctively her left hand went to the bruised right one in a soothing motion, Arnav's eyes drew to the damage he had done and they crinkled in concern for about a second before he checked himself for being weak. All the while they seemed to have been staring at each other none wanting to be the first one to back down.
'What is your name?' Arnav practically thundered making Khushi flinch on his tone, not that she had not heard it before but she was not used to be addressed in that tone, after all she was the beloved daughter of her neighbourhood.
'Khu-Khushi Kumari Gupta!' While at the beginning she had stuttered about, she finished her name with the full voice she was known for; The tigress was truly awake!
'So, Ms Gupta what the hell are you doing in my building?' It seemed he had taken God given right to surprise her. She slowly asked, as if afraid of her own question 'Who are you?'
This seemed the limit to the Great Arnav Singh Raizada, he was used to being recognized for a while now, even before he had made his first billion his looks had been enough to get him the correct attention at the correct times; to be unknown to a girl was not in his books for almost forever!
His nostrils flared, showing his irritation and anger, it was after a long look that he answered 'Arnav Singh Raizada, the person who owns not only this building, but most of them in the vicinity!' Arrogance dripped from each word and anger had homed in his eyes.
Arnav was practically breathing fire from his nose, while his eyes flashed hay-wire intent. He could not understand this need to keep her right where she was, while his brain screamed to throw her out now. His jaw clenched as he tried to control his urge to grab hold of that delicate forearm all over again, it had felt right there.
Khushi saw the gamut of expressions running on his face and prayed buaji was yet to cancel her return ticket; she was not staying here after all!
Khushi gulped the bile that had come into her mouth; she really did not want to ask the next question 'Anjali-ji, how do you know Anjali-ji?'
Now it was Arnav's turn to be surprised, his sister being addressed in such a familiar manner by an employee was new to him and on top of all this, this girl-! His eyebrows shot up when everything dawned on him, he had been tricked!
HE HAD BEEN TRICKED BY HIS SISTER!! He could not believe that she had done this!
'She is my sister and-'he did not finish his intentions out loud, Di's interferences were okay till a limit, but now enough was enough!
All Khushi heard was sister and her head went on in circles. Nope Lucknow will have to wait, Devi Maiyya had just presented her with an amazing opportunity to not only further her career but take her form of revenge from this Laad Governor, nope she wasn't going anywhere. With this thought she smiled.
Arnav spotted the smile on her lips, he was about to say something, but it seemed to have slipped his notice. For all he could see was her lips, those bow shaped-plump lips- he almost had to shake himself from the reverie. He willed his anger to come back, yes that was save, it was always safe. But before he could say anything, khushi took her second shot of the day and repeated
'Nope, you can't fire me, for I don't work for you.' She had anticipated that he would say that his sister would fire her as well, for dear readers as smart as our heroine is, she is not privy to all Raizadas and their manipulating genes!
He could not believe a chit of a girl had the guts to open her mouth in front of him and on top of that she had the guts to insult him! But he was not ASR for nothing!
'Yes, true you don't work for me Ms Gupta.' He by now had a blooming smile on his face. Khushi was a little baffled by the smile, but decided to go with the flow. 'Yes! I work for Anjali-ji and she has sent me over here with an assignment of the Liaison department for the next 14 days, you might own AR Fashion's Mr. Raizada but I am not employed by you.' She finished with some conviction, but she knew she had lost, somehow mid-way only.
Arnav was angry but a fire was growing in the pit of his stomach which had a lot to do with anticipation, yes he was mad to be crossed by his sister and this chit of a girl, but it had been a while since he had been challenged and frankly it felt good, almost alive again to be challenged. Things over the years had become so easy that he never really had to do anything out of his way to get what he wanted, a challenge was too far gone an expectation. He decided there and then, that the next 14 days were going to be interesting. A little game would not in any way harm him; this girl would not be able to cope with what his mind was now proof-reading!
'14 days you say Ms. Gupta, well now that Anjali-'JI' has ordered we'll have to comply won't we. Well then I'll see you tomorrow morning sharp at 8:30. And Ms Gupta don't be late, I don't like slackers.' He said all this in a very calm voice, it reminded Khushi of calm before a storm, the way he had said Anjali-JI she had goosebumps and was getting vary of him by the second; but she knew the last line was a dismissal and she was too taken aback by his calm tone that she vacated without a smart retort.
Oh! What shame! Thought Arnav, he was anticipating at least a retort; maybe she was not up for it. What the hell was he thinking, he was actually consorting impudence, he Arnav Singh Raizada was inviting trouble!
As soon as Khushi exited his cabin, Arnav prowled his cabin like a cage, his fury was with many, for his Di to go behind his back, for Aman and Lavanya to not inform him and on top was Ms. Khushi Kumari Gupta to be that distraction who he could not flush from his mind and he had just invited trouble in her form to his office for the next 14 days, yup he had lost it!
Lavanya had run behind Aman all the way to ASR's cabin, but both came to a sudden stop when they heard the door shut with a bang, Lavanya's hand automatically went to Aman's upper-arm thinking of the poor girl's fate. After spending most part of the day with her, she knew Lucknow event was not sequin-girl's fault.
Aman was very aware of Lavanya's fingers on his arm, it had been a while and God did it feel good! But resist he must, he told himself the same thing all over again when after Khushi had exited in a trance and Lavanya had come behind him and was now breathing close to his ear. God-Strength!
On the other side of town, Payal was now exiting the British Council Library (BCL) after managing a membership but it will be less to say that she was shocked. She had heard it was not difficult to get a membership, but it had taken hardly 15minutes and no money at all! She had been walking in a trance and almost bumped in a hard chest, she immediately stepped back with a ready apology when she spotted HIM!
'Oh My God! What are you doing here?' it just escaped and seeing his widening smile distracted her from her war path.
Aakash had been playing hooky from work since morning, following HER everywhere. He had kept Chun-mun out of it, man did the little devil have a big mouth and God forbid if Anjali Di heard about it. Strangely enough he wanted to keep all knowledge about HER to himself. He smiled at the confused and surprised look she gave him, well she shouldn't be surprised! It was her who had given him the idea of stalking her and he had thought, why the hell had he not thought about it, so here he was following her around. He had at many times in the day thought it to be very creepy, but it seemed he had lost all power over himself.
Before he could answer, clerk from BCL came running and by-passing Payal came and addressed Aakash. There and then Aakash mentally slapped his forehead in anticipation of what was to come.
'Sir, ma'am did not sign the final document, we need it for the cards.' He looked at her when he mentioned her, but all the while talking to Aakash. Aakash slid his tongue over his front teeth behind closed lips in nervousness and closed his eyes for a second. The clerk continued 'Payal ma'am could you please sign the paper?' he got his job done from a very stunned Payal and left the tensed atmosphere in the parking lot.
'I- why? Why-what are you doing?' Payal was too stunned for a coherent sentence, her bewilderment showed on her face, automatically Aakash stepped ahead saying 'Payal' it was as if he was savouring her name. Payal too looked up to his eyes and saw him rolling her name on his lips again and again in a weird muttering way.
'A-a you-what- what's your name?' Curiosity got the better of her.
'Aakash' he by-passed his full-name on the pretext of him being pursued by innumerable girls after knowing his 'Raizada' tag in the past. He instinctively knew that she was not one of those gold-diggers, but he just wanted her to know him as a man not with his lifelong TAG. It was primitive, it was new but he liked it, as a matter of fact he liked it a lot.
'Aakash- just Aakash?' Payal might not have savoured his name but a zing went thought her when she said his name out load.
'Aakash Singh' he leaned on the pole that was just to his right and came to her face-level. 'Payal Gupta. Aakash-'she stopped mid-way after introducing herself, when she noticed the half-smile creeping on his lips. He pushed off the pole and stepped towards her 'Yes, payal'
'What are you doing?' Payal slightly tilted her face to her left, as if in wonderment.
'You mean you don't know?' Aakash smiled like a loon, all the while thinking Finally she is catching on!
'Na-uh! You are all, I don't know'over-something.' Payal was still looking at him with that vacant expression in her eyes.
It dawned on him, maybe just maybe, he was the one who needed to catch on and on top of that 'over-something' didn't sound nice.
'Payal' he said in his best-deep voice and stepped closer to her, she was shocked for a nano-second and then she really Finally caught on!
'You are hitting on-ME!' the first half of the statement was more of an accusation while the final word was more in bewilderment.
Only this woman had it in her to surprise him, three short meetings and already a perfect score. This time he laughed out loud.
'Yes, payal I am hitting on you. But from your response I think I am not doing a good job.' Now he had come to teasing her, this time she did not take long to catch on.
'I-a'nai- I mean- ME! Seriously?' her query somehow left him with a warm heart, it felt wonderful.
'Would you like to have coffee with me?' when he saw her features go askew he changed his tone, 'Come-on lets go for that coffee, now.' And left Payal no other option but to proceed towards 'Indian Coffee House'.
Yes ladies, this is the Aakash streets of Delhi recognized.
It was just after 8 when Anjali made it back from the office and as was her routine she made her way to the nursery, where she found her she-devil gobbling up on the latest episode of her favourite TV show. While she liked the on-screen pair, she found the story progression too slow for her liking. But well she was a woman of action and could never, even as a child bear delays.
She placed her daughter in her lap and started inquiring about the day. After inanimate chatter for a while she suddenly jumped with and said
'Mama! There is a new Teacher in the school, she smells like Marigolds! I call her Mari ma'am and she smiles each time I say that!' Anjali smiled the smile only a mother can manage and said 'But what is your Mari ma'am's real name?'
Chun-mun fell quite for a minute as if in disbelief and said 'Mama I didn't ask! Oh mama but she liked Mari ma'am!' Justifications never change colours, they remain the same, for being judged is shied away from and our she-devil was no less.
At the dinner table all family members were gathering when Arnav entered, he was preoccupied with all the topics he had make-do with Di tonight. While Aakash had taken his designated seat next to his jijaji of course the Other side, who seemed to be in deep thought and wondered that it was pretty rare for the Raizada's to all sit together and eat. His mother was busy making sure everything was in line, while his grandmother had just taken her place.
The original Mrs. Raizada (Devyani-Nani) saw a chirpy grandson in comparison to her other sulky one and then moved on to her pensive son-in-law, then layed eyes on her granddaughter and great granddaughter making their way to the table, this in fact was a unique day.
'Chote, wash your hands in the basin by the kitchen and join us for dinner, it seems we all have made it to the family meal at least once in a decade.' Anjali felt her cheeks grow hot, for it was generally her and Shyam who were missing from the meals; well dinner was a miss for most of them due to a social life of a millionaire and a family name to uphold.
Arnav was in two minds to blast now in front of everyone or to hold a while, he looked at how Nani was pissed at something and decided to take the less volatile route, but it seemed Anjali had never learnt to hold a while and Shyam of all people could vouch for that.
As soon as Arnav took a place on the table she poked him with business question, she started with general questions, which had even Aakash puzzled, Anjali never fished, by this time most people on the table had left all interest in the 'Bharwa-bhindi' and were tracking where Anjali was heading to.
Only Arnav and Shyam were the two who knew. Anjali smirked to Shyam over the dining table, he was sure that it was just the trailer and he was yet to see the movie.
