hello

We all would probabl blindly agree that parents have a role in their child's education. But if u are asked exactly what their role would be, wht would u say it is?

Is it encouragement? Or monitoring? Tutoring? What exactly is the role of parents in the education of their children?

cheers,
sneha

Good question..I think that parents shud have a balanced role in a child's education, neither too much nor too less. Parents encouragement is definitely very uplifting for us, their support inspires us to study more..If I get low marks or something, if my parents just give me a 'short' pep talk abt how u can do better, and tell me 'lovingly' to work harder..that works a million times better than when they warn me to study better next time, or suffer the consequences..

And Parents shud set a time limit for lazy students like me..to remind us when we forget and become too lazy, to go to our rooms and open our textbooks...So basically I wud say monitoring and encouraging...let the child learn by himself, dont absolutely spoon-feed him, sitting with him, and reading it for him and all..unless there is no other choice...

Good Topic Sneha!!!!!!!!!šŸ‘

Parents play an important role in the development of the Child's personality. You can say, they are the very first teachers for a child. They introduced him/ her to the real challenges of life and alongside promote and protect him/ her to clear all those obstecles.

The very good example of the same is Chandra Shekhar (a 15 year old boy from Bangalore pursuing M. Tech). His father is an auditor and mother is a banker. They give him the right path, not forced their decision, but see Shekhar's interest in Comp. and attributed all the resouces for him to obtain his aim. I send my heartiest SALUTEšŸ‘to Shekar's parents. They got the responsibility and they fulfiled it with total commitment. SEE : This is role of true parents.

Thats a very inspirational story HappyJai. I think parents play a very important role in the child's education. But it's not entirely the parents responsibility though. The children need to think abt their studies and they should be concerned abt their future.

And its the parents who should be responsible for monitoring and motivating the child. And they should give him/her proper food and set some sort of agenda (e.g. you must not sleep later than 10:30) or something

Anyway, so I agree that parents play an important role, but I also agree with the comment that the role should be balanced. Parents helping their children with their homework is a positive thing as it allows for parent/child bonding in a positive way.

My parents got involved with our homework to the extent that it was, "Get your homework done right now before I pull out the belt." This is an example of what not to do when helping your kids with homework.

If you say about academic education, then parents do play a big role, in all departments you've mentioned. At the same time depends on the child's capability to live up to them.

And when it comes to educating as a person or human being, it is the sole responibility of the parents to guide their children. It's the parents duty to nurture and monitor the actiities of their child. A child is more likely to follow the parents character and behaviour. Some things you don't need to teach them, they just pick up from their parents. Like I have seen many traits in myself which my father used to folow, he never taught me those.
