Epilogue
"Maan", she shouted standing in the centre of the living room, of the Khurana Mansion.
Dev- Naintara sat with Kiara and Kunal, on the couches in the living room.
"Bhabhiji, no one would believe after hearing your voice that you are over 55 years", said Dev, laughing.
"Chup Raho, Dev", said Naintara.
"Aaj toh veerji gaye", whispered Kiara to Kunal and both of them giggled.
"Geet kya hain?" yelled Maan from the first floor. "I was on phone with one of my clients", he said, walking down the stairs.
Maan and Geet had two kids- one son named Aditya and one daughter named Mansi. Aditya was very much like his dad- quiet, stubborn, determined, and arrogant ofcourse. Mansi, on the other hand, had qualities of both Maan and Geet. She was a simple girl, like how Geet has always been despite being the wife of a business tycoon. Geet has always over the years, treated her self middle class and also raised her kids that way- giving them just what is required without too much show and pomp. Mansi had acquired her dad's qualities of not succumbing to pressure and staying calm even in the most adverse of the situations. Both the siblings loved each other and maintained a very friendly relationship with each other just like Maan, Dev, and Kiara.
Two months after Maan and Geet's wedding, Naintara was pregnant. She had given birth to a baby boy and they named him Garv. Garv was Maan's favorite of the kids in the Khurana household. He addressed Maan as "Bade papa", and spoke to him very freely, while the other kids usually feared Maan's short temper and impatience. Kiara and Kunal had settled in Delhi but would travel very often- theur favorite destination for business or vacation being London. They had twins- Ayushi and Akanksha.
All the five kids were raised together and loved each other as much as they loved their siblings. They played together, fought together, and at times, stood by each other, when their parents scolded them or yelled at them for various reasons. Garv being the eldest of the kids took excellent care of the others while Aditya protected his sisters. It was hard to decide who was handsome- Garv or Aditya. Though Garv was Dev's son, he wasn't a casinova like Dev. He respected women and had decided that he there would be only one woman in his life- very much as his bade papa. Garv's woman was none other than Niharika and Achint's only daughter- Aaradya. Aaradya and Garv were classmates and Garv always liked Aaradya. Over a period of time, that like developed into love and Garv had confessed to Maan, first-that he loved Aaradya and was willing to spend the rest of his life with her. Aaradya had grown up knowing Garv and hence she had no problem getting married to him. Geet was the last to know about Garv and Aaradya's love story and had always taunted Niharika, for two things- first, for not staying in the mansion on Geet and Maan's wedding and for not telling Geet about Garv and Aaradya.
Daadima, had passed away, five years after Maan and Geet's wedding. She had seen all her grand children and had spent ample time with them. She was happy that all her responsibilities were settled and that now, she could die in peace- whenever death came. She knew Maan would take excellent care of the Khurana businesses and properties and she knew that Dev would take excellent care of the family, while also helping Maan with the family business. Maan always missed his Daadima for she was more than a mother to him. What he is today was because of the countless sacrifices that this woman had gone through. He had disobeyed her, fought with her, spoke with arrogance to her, but never stopped loving her. She was all he had, at a time when he had lost his parents at a young age- she became his strength and also his weakness- and so was he- her strength and her weakness- her grandson- Maan, whom she loved more than her own son.
Maan, every year on Dadima's birthday and her death day, would fast and donate clothes and books to orphans. He had opened an orphanage in her memory and took excellent care of the children in the orphanage. Geet was given the responsibility of the orphanage and after a point of time, even Mansi and Ayushi started helping her. Kiara, Akanksha and Naintara took care of the trust that was named after Maan's mother. Until Daadima was alive, she took complete care of the activities of the trust but eventually just handed it over to Kiara and Naintara.
"Why are you screaming?", he asked her, angrily, throwing the file onto the tea table.
"Because it is important", she said.
"What?", he asked.
"Maan, do you realize what your son Aditya has done?", she asked him.
"What did he do?", he said, looking around the living room and slightly smiling to acknowldege the presence of the others.
"HE's your replica Maan- arrogance personified", she said.
"Geet, so?", said Maan.
"When I told him that Naintara's friend had asked if Aditya would be interested in her daughter, guess what he tells me?", she said, fuming.
"Geet, why don't you save me the time and effort, honey! Just tell me, what he said", said Maan.
"He told me that he does not want to marry and that he would never marry" she said.
"So, how is he my replica Geet? I've been married to you for the last 27 years, if you remember", he said.
"Maan", she shouted, "Naintara tells me that he also insulted that girl calling her cheap and middle class" and Kunal interefered, "Geet, maybe he does not want to marry now, later he might change his mind just like Maan Veerji has".
"Oh I wish I had not changed my mind, Kunal", said Maan and Geet looked at him as though she would kill him.
"Excuse me?", she said.
"Honey, I love you!", he said.
"I don't, Mr. Khurana! Your son is just like you- now you tell him that arrogance, pride and ego are not the way of life, since he learnt all this from you", she said and walked away from the living room.
Maan saw Geet storming out and Turned towards Naintara, "Is this true that he insulted her?", he asked.
"Yes Veerji!", she said.
"Strange! He never does that", said Maan and got up. "Where is he?", he asked.
Dev said, "outhouse!"
"Okay!", said Maan and walked towards the outhouse.
"Adi", he called out, as he entered the outhouse.
"Dad, here!", said Adi, and Maan looked towards his right and found Adi working on his laptop.
"Why is your mom so angry?", he asked Adi.
"Apparently I insulted a girl", he said, closing his laptop.
"And why did you do that?", he asked.
"When mom told you that I insulted her, did she not tell you why I insulted her?", asked Adi, looking straight into Maan's eyes.
Maan did not say anything.
"Dad, people call me arrogant and egoistic and say I am like you- Aditya Singh Khurana is prouder than his father Maan Singh Khurana. That is to the outside world. At home, I respect and love everyone- be it mom and you or my sisters and brother or my uncles and aunts. And I cannot stand one word against my family. Irrespective of how much I might fight with all of you oe tease you, if anyone raises their finger on any of you, they will have to face me, and that';s what happened. So, long story cut short- she insulted my mother, so I insulted her!", he said.
"So, why dint you tell her that?", asked Maan.
"Dad, she's already angry that I told her the other day that I wont marry and that I dont like girls. I don't have the patience to explain so much to her. You do it!", he said. "And anyways, I don't give justifications. I'm your son!"
Maan looked at him and said, "Okay, I'll do the talking and you know what to do", he said and winked.
"Ofcourse!", said Aditya.
Geet was in her bedroom settling some clothes and jewellery when a diary fell out of a heap of clothes. She picked it up and smiled looking at it. She remembered the morning after the wedding when Maan had showed her the diary.
"Geet", he said, sitting beside her on the bed.
She looked at him and then at the diary and yelled out, "yeh aapke paas kaise?" and oulled it away from him.
"Geet, this is …" and she cut him off, "my personal diary. How can you read someone's personal diary?", she asked him, angrily.
"Geet, did I say I read it? I simply had it with me, thought I'd read but then thought I'd read it with you. So, I carefully kept it with me. Thought I'll tell, but over a period of time, I forgot about it and remembered it, only today morning, when I opened the locker for something", he said, taking her hand and placing the diary in hers.
"So, you dint read it?", she asked again.
He took a deep sigh and said, "Was I talking latin all this while? Or do you simply fail to understand simple English?", he asked.
She made a face at him, opened the diary to read it- and suddenly looked up to see what he was doing. He was standing by the huge glass window of his bedroom and looked outside. The window overlooked the lawn and a part of the mansion driveway. She walked up to him, hugged him from behind, and kissed his back.
"Sorry", she said.
He did not say anything. "Maan you can read it too", she said.
"No thanks!", he said.
"Maan, I'm sorry", she said, turning him towards her. She kissed him and said, "Chaliye, we'll read it together".
Geet was disturbed when she heard the knob of the door. Geet went back to settling her clothes. He went and hugged her from behind.
"Chodiye", she said, trying to push him off.
"Geet, you know very well, that the more you try to move away, the more you'll regret. So why don't you just give up", he said, kissing her shoulder.
"Maan", she said softly.
"Geet, you said you don't love me", he said.
"Yeah I don't!", she said.
"Really Geet?", he asked, turning her towards him.
"Really", she said.
"But I love you", he said.
"I know", she said.
"You love me too", he said and "WAise tum gusse mein aur young aur sexy dikhte ho", he said and winked.
Geet opened her mouth wide in shock, "who says you are old? You are naughtier than ever", she said.
"Yes Geet, when I have a wife who just turns younger and more beautiful each passing day, then how would I grow old?", he said.
"What do you want Mr.Khurana. You are praising me too much, so obviously there is some agenda you've come up with", she said.
"ahaan, My Smart Geet you are", he said and suddenly looked at the diary. "What's this doing here?", he asked. She turned to look at what he was talking about.
"You're walking down the memory lane is it?", he asked, smiling.
"Hmmm, good old days", she said and smirked.
"Oh good "old" days?", he questioned.
"Well, leave that. You anyway did all the nautanki on the planet and made me beg to read my diary and eventually read it", she said.
"Haan, mazaa aa gaya tha. You begged me so much to read your personal diary. You're hilarious at times Geet", he told and laughed as he recalled the incident too.
"Oh well, I had to beg you, cos you were all angry and all. Otherwise I would never even let you touch this", she said and looked away.
"Ohh really?", he said, kissing her cheek.
"Hmmm", she said and was about to say something when they heard a knock on the door.
"Kaun hain?", she said.
"Mom", came Adi's voice.
"Maan, mujhe nahin baat karni hain aapke arrogant bte se", she said.
"Geet, when you talk and romance the father of your arrogant son, why cant you talk to your son? He definitely cant be as arrogant as I am, right?", he said and walked to the door and opened it.
"Mom, look what I got for you", he said and came and hugged her. She looked away. Mansi had walked in, too. She hugged her dad and he kissed her on her forehead. "Hi baby", he whispered and she smiled.
"Mom icecream", he said and she did not respond. "Mom, I do not have any hatred for women. Why would I? I have some wonderful women around me- you, mansi, chachi, bua and my other sisters and my to-be sister-in-law Aaradya and ofcourse Niharika aunty. I respect each one of you and even the others, Mom. But if any outsider raises his/her finger on any one of these women I respect and adore, then I insult them. I'm not explaining more than this. You should know me better than I know myself", he said.
"Mom melt ho raha hain", he said, taking a small scoop of it, and putting it near her mouth. She couldn't resist long, ate the icecream, and later pushed Adi away.
"Aap dono baap bte aise hi ho. I convince myself everytime to not forgive you two for anything you do or say, but eventually you make me a fool and prove me wrong, even when I'm not at fault", she said.
"Geet, that's because you are one", and paused and Geet looked at him angrily, while Mansi and Aditya rolled into laughter.
"What?", she said, aloudly.
"I haven't finished yet! I said, you are one in a million, Geet", he said and she threw a cushion at him. Mansi and Aditya ran out of the room saying, "Have fun dad" and shut the door behind him. Geet ran behind Maan, finally caught him, and almost strangled him, when he caught her hand and kissed it.
"Geet, I love you!", he said and "I really mean it", he said, kissing her hand again.
"I know", she said.
"I tease you because I love you Geet. In addition, as far as Aditya is concerned give him sometime. Its just that- he doesn't have anyone in his life yet, to make him realize what love is and what it means to get married and have a life partner who would walk with you at every walk of life. Once, he has such a girl whom he wont let go, he'll automatically understand the sanctity of marriage", said Maan, holding her hand close to his heart.
"Hmmm, do you understand the sanctity?", she asked.
"Not until you walked into my life and made it so beautiful", he said and she smiled and hugged him.
Maan recollected the words that Kiara had told him- when Kiara, Naintara and Geet had gone to HP for a vacation- Geet ahd told them about the kind of guy she wanted to spend the rest of her life with. Kiara had recorded it and made Maan hear it before he had walked to the mandap on the day of their wedding.
"He should be posh, charismatic and dignified. His actions should speak louder than words. He should have a beautiful smile and eyes that speak volumes, without uttering a word. His care and concern, should be to an extent that even his anger reflects his love and concern for me. HE should argue, fight and yet never stop loving me"
He smiled when he had heard it- she had spoken so accurately about him and about how their relationship had to be defined in the future. He fell in love with her all over again and fell in love with her every single day for the last 27 years of life- as husband and wife. Whether they fought, they teased each other or even almost killed each other in anger, they never let it get any bigger than their love. And that's probably why- Garv and Aaradya wanted to be a couple like Maan and Geet- so in love, yet not losing their individual identities. Even the other girls of the family- Mansi, Ayushi and Akanksha, wanted life partners who respected them fought with them, loved them and never asked them to change. They adored Maan for never asking Geet to change at any point and Geet did the same.
As far as Aditya Khurana was concerned- Maan thought he would make a different track for himself all together- be it in career or even his love life- afterall he was Maan 's replice like Geet always complained- So, he had to be different!
A few days later, Maan was in his formal living room, where he was addressing the press. They had asked him questions about his career, his businesses and moved to his personal life.
"Sir, what makes you so successful?", asked one reporter.
"My family", he said ," I have a wonderful family who've stood by me all these years and helped me acheieve heights greater than what I had imagined and aimed for".
"One person you wished is with you today"
"My Daadima", he said and felt his eyes get teary, but controlled himself.
"About love, Sir?"
Maan smiled and said, "My wife- Geet. She defines love for me".
"About life, Mr.Khurana?"
"Life ends when you stop dreaming,
hope ends when you stop believing
and love ends when you stop caring.
So dream hope and love' make Life Beautiful"……………………………………… (Sorry Hermoso, I couldn't help but steal these beautiful lines from your post. I simply loved these lines. I did not have time to ask for permission, as it just occurred to me that I could use these lines here- it summarizes the very essence of my FF- Thank you!)
Geet , who was standing in the other corner of the room, hidden from the eyes of the press, texted Maan, "Love you , Mr. Maan Singh Khurana"
Maan smiled as he quickly saw the message and before the press could ask anymore questions, Maan got up and said, "Thank you very much!" and walked to the other end of the room, took Geet's hand and walked away, smiling.
Geet recollected the words, smiled, and held Maan's hand even tightly, unable to believe this was the same man who hated her and hated the very word called "love" the first time they met.
Life ends when you stop dreaming,
hope ends when you stop believing
and love ends when you stop caring.
So dream hope and love' Makes Life Beautiful
Ending my FF with these beautiful lines- Thank you all for your support, time and patience. 😊😊😊😊
