Hi 😊,
A BIG Thank You for all the lovely comments. I have not replied individually but I have read each one of them and it means a lot to me. I will be replying soon, but a couple of things, would like to address them here. The last update was too lengthy and I had edited quite a few things... This is just a supplementary reading meant to make things more clear. Read it ...Skip it it's up to you.
@ aashluvsmaan, this is for you
AZAD is a group of people, whose only aim is to free the society and its youth from the deadly clutches of Drugs and to put an end to drug trafficking.
Led by Faisal, the members are a daring and a determined lot, some are driven by a personal loss and some because of their sense of purpose.
Their earlier modus operandi was simple they would sniff around for Users and look for shady places where rave parties and/or drugs would be available and once their suspicions are confirmed, they would call the police.
And that is how they had found Geet, though they never involved themselves with drug addicts, Faisal somehow took a liking for the young teenage girl who reminded him of his dead brother.
Once the police was called they would hang around until they arrived and arrests are made, but overtime they realized it was no point getting drug abusers and small time pushers arrested; they did bribe their way out in no time.
Drug syndicates, they realized is one of the most organized crime and has a highly evolved chain of operators and so to tackle it they too would have to bring in a lot more structure and planning in their work.
The new recruits (like Geet) were trained to be sniffers i.e. identify drug addicts in and around Schools and Colleges and popular hang out places.
The training helped them to recognize the signs and symptoms (Physical, Behavioral and Psychological) of drug abuse and addiction. The training also included a comprehensive study of Commonly Abused Drugs (Marijuana, Inhalants/vapors, Hallucinogens (LSD), and Heroin etc.)
The abusers were reported to the members of the higher rung, who would lead them to the small time peddler which would lead them to a middleman and eventually to the supplier. The suppliers were dealt with only by the core members.
They worked in random groups and ensuring not to repeat the same set or area and giving each a break of 3/5 months immediately after an operation to avoid getting recognized
Also they would watch out for major parties or events where large quantities of drug would be shipped. They would inform the police and ensure the presence of media so that the racket is busted.
Another thing to note here is that they were an independent outfit and did not work in tandem with the police, they just provided the information.
The Core group though met regularly the other members were called only for reporting and assignments.
When Geet was in college she would sniff around colleges, but she had an added plus point, her camera; it helped her to gatecrash parties/events. In due course she became more functional and after leaving house was more active, as she could take part in operations which entailed a lot of traveling.
By then she had started to track peddlers and middlemen.
She was just back from her stint in the Parvati valley (Himachal Pradesh), when Aditi had left frantic messages for her (i.e. when Khuranas were coming to 'see' Aditi).
Now coming to Tej, I fault myself and my writing when he is depicted a villain.
I am not trying to justify him but than don't you think his venomous outburst was long overdue.
They (Geet and he) had been at odds throughout, indulging in frequent name calling; their minor arguments in no time would flare into major squabbles and bickering. If he was evil, she too was no angel. To top it she got preferential treatment in the name of being the youngest.
He had known Geet was somewhere responsible for the rift between his parents and his resentment intensified after he gained piece of 'misinformation'. He was 22 then and Geet was 14. Though he chose to turn a blind eye to it, he could never forget his mom's vacant look that fateful day.
Four years he had burned in anger and bitterness.
But seeing the 'ad' in the newspaper snapped his tolerance, bringing him to the edge of his endurance. The bile that rose through him exploded and all the pent up bitterness and hostility flowed, changing the course of Geet's life.
It was an act of impulse, and he too was affected... whether he regretted it or not I do not know.
PS. If there is to be a blame game don't you think both the parents were to be held responsible?
If Mohinder was drowning in the sea of misery and guilt, to even think about anybody else. Mrinalini though accepted Geet, failed to notice Tej's plight.
PS. I am working on the next part, will hopefully 😉 post it soon.
