Sonu Niigaam is being stalked by a 25-year-old man named Wasim. He often stands outside the singer-actor's building, called Amarnath Towers, and sings so loudly that he can be heard even in Sonu's 12th floor flat. Even when the singer is not in town, Wasim continues to make an appearance outside his home.
Broken promise
According to rumours, Wasim is not a fan but a disgruntled singer, who feels cheated by Niigaam. Sonu had apparently promised to help the man land a job as a playback singer. Since that hasn't happened, Wasim now stands under Sonu's building to remind him of his broken promise.
'Wasim loves Sonu'
A building resident who didn't want to be named tells HiTLIST, "Wasim stays in Kandivli. I think he is in love with Sonu. He doesn't come here everyday, but on the days he does, he stays here for long hours. Judging by his appearance, he looks like a man of limited means. He constantly makes attempts to strike up a conversation with Sonu, but Sonu does not respond. I hear that Sonu had promised him an opportunity to sing in the film industry, but he was seriously let down."
Rajinder, the security guard at Amarnath Towers, tells us, "Wasim kneels down in front of the main gate. He looks up at Sonu's flat, waves his arms and starts singing Niigaam saab's songs. Agar uske actions aap kabhi camera pe capture kar sake, to dekhne laayak hain."
Sonu's denial
Sonu admits that Wasim has been doing these desperate acts outside his building for a while now, but says that he has never promised to help Wasim. The reason? His voice was is not suitable for Bollywood. "Once, he gave me a few of his cassettes. I listened to them but he is not a good singer. He had even come to the Indian Idol set and we'd auditioned him but he did not clear the test."

When Wasim first began appearing at Sonu's residence, the singer spoke to him and suggested that he pursue something other than singing. "But he does not listen. What more can I do?"
Kaisa yeh pyaar hai
As if Wasim's antics aren't enough, Sonu says that there are two more people stalking him.
"There's a boy who consumed poison outside my building. Two months later, he threatened suicide by dousing himself with kerosene. He was even been jailed for two days. The problem is, he wants to work in my house. How can I appoint someone who is so aggressive and distorted?"
The other stalker is a girl who claims to be married to Niigaam. "She waits outside my building with her sister. On my birthday (July 30), her sister somehow managed to speak to me. She told me that the girl was in such a terrible state that she doesn't even eat or sleep properly. I told her point blank that the girl had lost it."
