Caught in a big lie
Friday, July 27th 2012, 12:00 AMNew Delhi, July 27 -- The celebrities who had pleaded innocence after being caught at a rave party in Mumbai on May 20 are now eating their words, after they all tested positive for drugs. The latest to test positive is TV actor Shilpa Saklani, whose husband, actor Apurva Agnihotri, too, tested positive. "Actress Shilpa Agnihotri's blood report suggests she consumed drugs," a police officer confirmed on Wednesday. According to reports, she has tested positive for cannabis while some of the others have tested positive for Ecstasy.
Others who initially feigned ignorance about it being a rave party and later tested positive for consumption of banned drugs include cricketer Rahul Sharma, Anchor Angad Bedi, son of iconic cricketer Bishen Singh Bedi, and fashion designer Rocky S, who designs for stars such as Bipasha Basu and Dia Mirza.
Now, they're left tongue-tied, and refused to take calls ever since the test results surfaced. "The fact that they have tested positive will embarrass them and keep them from telling more lies. The ridicule and lack of credibility will be a punishment in itself," says social commentator Prahlad Kakkar. Maninee De Mishra, a friend of Apurva-Shilpa, who had aggressively defended them earlier, says, "They should have kept quiet; that would've prevented a backlash."
Some friends, however, give bizzare explanations to defend the celebs. "Testing positive does not necessarily mean they consumed drugs, may be the drugs in the air entered their body," says TV actor Hiten Tejwani, a friend of Apurva and Shilpa.
