Eros International Media has responded sharply to recent remarks made by filmmaker Aanand L Rai and actor Dhanush regarding the altered ending of Raanjhanaa and the new project Tere Ishk Mein. The company, in an official statement, has asserted its full legal and creative ownership over Raanjhanaa, and questioned the claims being made by the duo.

Raanjhanaa was re-released recently with an alternate ending created using artificial intelligence. The Tamil version, Ambikapathy, was also released with the same ending. Aanand L Rai and Dhanush had expressed public disapproval of this new version, calling it a tampering of their artistic vision.

In response, Eros clarified that the AI-modified ending was a creative and lawful reinterpretation intended specifically for Tamil-speaking audiences. “This alternate version is transparently labelled and does not affect the original film, which continues to be available across platforms,” the statement said. The company added that such adaptations are common in global cinema, especially during anniversary releases.

On the issue of financial contributions, Eros denied any external investments in the film. The statement addressed Dhanush’s suggestion that Aanand invested in the film to secure casting, calling it “factually inaccurate and legally irrelevant.” Eros claimed it had taken full financial risk and retains 100% ownership of the film’s intellectual property.

Tensions appear to have escalated over Tere Ishk Mein, which Rai and Dhanush have described as part of the Raanjhanaa universe. Eros has called this positioning “misleading” and “unauthorised,” and has sent a formal cease and desist notice dated 25 July 2025. It warned all parties to stop referencing Raanjhanaa without rights or approvals, and also alerted major OTT platforms to avoid content that might mislead viewers.

While the company expressed respect for the original creators, it reiterated that under Indian copyright law, the producer is the legal author of a film. Eros said the AI-assisted ending was shaped by a human creative team, with AI used only as a supporting tool.

They also dismissed the idea that this new ending was an attempt to distract from ongoing regulatory issues involving Colour Yellow Productions.
