Salman Khan, not SRK is the most recognisable Indian star in US

Source: Dailybhaskar.com | Last Updated 11:58(29/07/12)

He might be a big superstar in India, but that's not just what Salman Khan's is famous for. The actor, who's set to grace the Madame Tussauds' New York museum, since his wax statue which adorns the London museum is on loan for three months and will be showcased at NY, has interestingly become one of the most famous stars Indian in United States.

"Salman Khan is one of Bollywood's most enduring and recognizable stars," said Bret Pidgeon, general manager of Madame Tussauds New York, which boasts of a Bollywood Zone that comprises of stars like Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan.

Also notably, Salman's statue came into being after he beat some megastars- including Madhuri Dixit, Hrithik Roshan, Lata Mangeshkar and Abhishek Bachchan, in a public poll to choose the 'Next Bollywood Star' that would get a wax figure.

Well, looks like Salman's finally beaten SRK on an international arena too! Wonder what SRK has to say about the same?

He may be well known in the Indian community here in the states but among people in the USA who are NOT of Indian ancestry and who know anything about Bollywood I'd be willing to bet It's SRK who is the best known.
Salman just doesn't seem to have the attraction for the average non-Indian western person that SRK has, or had.
SRK's appeal just kind of crossed cultures. He seemed enough like us that we could understand him.
Salman, with his insulting comments about women of a certain age, and the wannabe street tough image is far more likely to alienate in the USA unless the audience is strictly Indian and willing/able to find that shizz charming.
