It can happen if the song itself is bad. For example Katrina is the hottest female star in India. Yet her song for Bodyguard was panned. It was really lame. But the same Katrina made a huge difference for the buzz generating for Agneepath with Chikni Chameli.

Ahh okay, makes sense now! :)

Hmm, valid question and I see your point...but like Shreya said, it can happen if the song, choreography, dancing, everything sucks..and thus doesn't create a buzz at all...not even in a really negative way (like Deepika's Dum Maaro Dum, or Kareena's mujra in AV managed to). There's other examples of bigger stars like Salman and SRK doing special apperances, songs in some movies and those still failing at the BO...like SRK did some song for his home production with youngsters...it still failed completely. Sallu did something for Tell Me O khuda and that failed too.
