Chapter 24
Evil Intention...
...
The shop door opens and a bells starts to ring. It echoes for a while before becoming once again silent. I look around in awe at all the dresses on display. Every colour in the rainbow was here. But not just one solid colour, but in many shades. Patterns, and designs which looked beautiful.
A lady sitting behind a counter smiles at us as we walk forwards. She walks up to us and she hugs Sanya.
"Hello dear, nice to meet you here," The lady says.
"Nice you meet you too, Yasmin," Sanya says. It seemed like they knew each other. Maybe Sanya was a daily customer here, I say to myself. She probably has to buy wedding dresses all the time.
"Can I help you with anything?" Yasmin asks.
"Yes please, I'm looking for bride maid's dresses for these two," Sanya tells them. The lady then looks at us both. I awkwardly look away.
"Let's see what we can get for them," Yasmin says, and she goes back behind the counter.
"She's the best person, I tell you. Always knows what is in fashion and what is old school," Sanya tells us.
"Maybe I get pick up some tips from her," Aahana says excitedly. "Can't we Manyata?" She looks at me. I give a silent nod.
"So your name is Maanyaataa? I thought it was Moniya," Sanya wonders out loud. I hated the way she said Manyata. I hate my name being said by her tongue. I hated everything about her.
"It's pronounced Man-ya-ta, and I prefer being called Moniya by strangers," I tell her. She looks at me awkwardly and Aahana nudges me.
"Don't be rude, she's gonna be your step-mother," Aahana whispers to me.
"She's a stranger to me, and remember what they say about stranger danger," I tell her.
"Yes yes I know. I've heard it so many times before at school. Don't talk to strangers. But she isn't a stranger," Aahana says.
"I don't care," I say. The lady then comes back with a notebook full of sketches and rough handwriting. She then leads us to a section full of beautiful detailed dresses. All of them seemed to have small stone work on.
"These are the dresses in fashion right now," Yasmin says.
"Thank you Yasmin. I think we can look for the right ones ourself now," Sanya says. Yasmin nods and she goes back to her counter.
"I love this hot pink one," Aahana says, inspecting a dress. "Manyata, this will really suite you." I look at it, and smile.
"Yeah it's beautiful," I say.
"Girls thats too bright for the wedding. We need something that matches and goes good with the wedding theme," Sanya tells us.
"But I liked that colour," I say. They both ignore me.
"What about this?" Aahana asks, picking up a sky blue dress which has many layers underneath.
"Really Aahana, we're not dressing up as disney princesses," I tell her shaking my head.
"Actually... I quite like that dress," Sanya says, taking a closer look at it. Oh no, she has got to be kidding. Wearing a princess dress like that would be really embarrassing. Maybe that was she plan, to make a fool out of me.
"See Manyata, your taste in fashion needs some upgrading," Aahana says.
"But I don't like it, how am I meant to wear that frilly thing. This is so stupid!" I exclaim.
"Come on Manya-Moniya it's not that bad, afterall Yasmine said these dresses are in fashion right now," Sanya says.
"How do you know, what if she is lying," I say.
"I've known her for 5 years now," She tells me. So that's when this disgusting game of hers started, five years ago. I decide to go look at a different dress. Moving through the stacks of dresses, my eyes land on a black dress. It was very simple, a long dress with some sequins sewn on. I pick it up and decide to try it on when someone touches my shoulder.
"Manu, if your think ing about that as ur bride maid's dress then you must have gone mental," Aahana says. She takes it out of my hand and throws it into a pile of clothes. "There should be no black in a wedding."
"But Aahu..." I start to protest.
"No, come on we're gonna look for other dress," She cuts me off. I nod and follow her back.
"Hey girls, what about this dress?" Sanya says holding up a peech frilly dress.
I look at it horrified. If she was going to make us wear that then what was she going to wear herself? And Peach? I wish someone would just save me from all this torment.
"I'm not wearing this," I state.
"Come on Manu, this is beautiful. I'd love to wear it," Aahana says.
"You do know brides maids are meant to be wearing simple clothing. It's the bride who's meant to stand out," I say.
"Of course darlin', but you two have to shine out like the stars too," Sanya says. "I've got my wedding dress all sorted."
"Come on Manu, please wear it. It will look amazing on you," Aahana pleads me.
"Fine then," I say through my clenched teeth. I take the dress to the fitting room and try it on. Once done I come out to show it to them.
"Wow, your looking gorgeous in that dress," Aahana tells me.
"It's not comfortable," I say, trying to pull the dress up higher.
"It's fine sweetheart, Aahana let's see if we can find one that looks the same for you," Sanya says. Aahana squeals and I go back to the fitting room to take the dress off. Carrying it in my arms, I go to look for the two. Then I spot the black dress again, and it gives me a brilliant idea. Smiling, I walk over to Aahana and Sanya.
"I'm very sorry, that was the last dress we had," Yasmine says to them.
"Guys whats up?" I ask them.
"We can't find the same dress," Aahana says sadly.
"Oh don't worry, you can have mine if you want," I say to her.
"Oh Moniya, I wanted you to have that. Aahana I've found you another one," Sanya says. She reveals another peach dress, this was was more better than mine.
"OMG! I love it!" Aahana says. "Do you think we can get Manyata one?"
"Sorry that's our last dress as well," Yasmine says.
"Oh don't worry, I'm sure Many-Moniya won't mind wearing that dress she's holding," Sanya tells her. Aahana nods happily, and we buy the dress.
"Thank you," Aahana says cheerily.
"Thanks," I say to Yasmine.
"Thanks Yasmine, you've been an angel. When will my wedding dress come?" Sanya asks.
"Hopefully it will be here tomorrow," Yasmine says.
"Thanks once again. See you soon," Sanya says. Then we leave the shop and go back into the car.
