Sitting in front of d tv.. I realized It wasn't just shahrukh dancing to tht tune.. it was my heart beating so hard.. I was lost in my thots.. wondering wht was happening 2 me.. from d time dad had announced of his decision 2 shift to india.. I have been lost in my own world!!

n i may cm across as a very filmy person.. But tht really isn't my fault.. being brought up in uk.. dats all my mom, no maa.. she hates nythng connected 2 d English!! N more often than not.. I call her mom, just 2 irritate her!! All dese yrs I ve been fed Punjabi khana n hindi movies!! Even after yrs of staying here.. I speak fluent Punjabi .. n cook awesm indian food!! A also a bit of Italian.. unknown 2 her.. bt thts a different story altogether.. hai na babaji.. or is it?!!

n though my dress up may b western.. phir bhi dil hai Hindustani!! I wonder d no of times I ve seen ddlj, kkhh n k3g.. n evn nw my mom has tears in her eyes evrytym we see or hear nythng patriotic..!! n aftr seeing swades.. thts it!! attending evry possible function, celebrating evry possible festivel at d indian community hall we have a mini india here..

N nw after staying here for almost 15yrs we r moving back to india!! Mom is beyond her usual self.. packing evrythng wid an energy I ve nvr seen.. while dad is busy wrapping up his business work.. meera my younger sis is busy attending her farewell parties.. born n brought up here, she is an almost firang!! Bt maa still managed 2 inculcate d desi flavor in her!! Every one is so happy.. mom n dad wanna meet all their frndz n relatives.. meers wants 2 check out d desi guys!!

But me.. I m happy for a different reason!! Actually happy isn't an adequate word.. I m beyond tht!! Even I don't know how many times I tried 2 go 2 india in d past yrs, bt sm hw or d odr.. it dint work out!!

Chapter 2

The D day is here.. we ve boarded d flight to india.. hey babaji.. my fear during take offs doesn't leave me.. which is why I avoid travelling by air!! I hold meers' hand.. n I know she s giggling bt I ll tk my revenge later.. ok geet think of smthng nice.. umm.. wht else? I think of DD n all my fear vanishes a smile automatically comes on my face!! As we settle down into our seats.. I continue smiling, letting go of meers' hand..

"DD".. a blush creeps onto my cheeks.. finally I ll b seeing him, meeting him!! I knew him n still did not.. it had been precisely 15 yrs 2months n 5days b4 wen he had left fm here to shift wid his family to india!! DD is our family frnds' son.. he lived wid his parents, daadi n brother next to our house!! Meers was very small den.. n it used 2 b us playing 2gthr.. n though he was elder to me.. it dint matter.. we were best buddies!! N 'twas only coz of him I got friendly wid his brother.. who generally kept to himself!! I remember lil bit of his daadi, a wonderful lady who used 2 cm from india smtyms.!! His parents n mine were grt frnds n so inevitably landed up 2gthr almost everyday.. plus we were in d same school.. so der was no stopping us!!

But evythng changed drastically wen his parents died in an accident.. daadi came from india n decided to take dem away.. to india!! I was really sad tht my best friend was going away.. bt dint know what to do..! I cried my heart out for him.. bt my tears cudnt prevent him fm goin away!! We decided 2 keep in touch.. dad said we cud use emails to do so n he'd help me wid it!!

As we bid good-bye, we hugged n cried!! I knew he was missing his parents n nw dey wer goin away to a new place.. it wasn't easy!! Polly aunty our neighbor got two boxes of pasta for him n his bro.. bth of dem loved Italian cuisine!! Polly aunty was very fond of him.. she hugged him tight, n den bid him good-bye.. "bye my DD!!"

N den he left!!

"whts DD?" I asked her..
