With a romantic song playing in the background, the (new) love stories certainly makes the audience smiles. While the focus of a daily soap is predictably the lead couple, the parallel love tracks also hold considerable interest. Some new love tracks which are currently blazing on the tube are that of Virat-Manvi (Kushal Tandon-Nia Sharma) in Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai, Dr Ranganath-Anji (Vishal Malhotra-Ishita Sharma) in Kuch Toh Log Kahenge, Arjun-Purvi (Rithvik Dhanjani-Asha Negi) in Pavitra Rishta, Raghav-Sia (Harshad Chopra-Sriti Jha) in Dil Se Di Dua... Saubhagyavati Bhav?,Akshat-Meenakshi (Siddhant Karnick-Ojaswi Oberoi) in Aasmaan Se Aage andShiv-Anandi (Siddharth Shukla-Pratyusha Banerjee) in Balika Vadhu.
So what is it about these love tracks that keep the audiences glued? Producer Sudhir Sharma says, "Love as a feeling is very desirable. So whether it is a youth show, or a saas-bahu soap, love tracks form the major hook for any storytelling, even if it is not between the main leads. These tracks give people a positive outlook which is why they always work."
Sometimes, new love tracks are essential to build a show and take the story forward. Actor Vishal Malhotra says, "The love story between Ranganath and Anji is the basis of comparison between two different relationships. Theirs is a love story between two people who belong to the same chronological age as opposed to the lead pair who have a huge age difference between them." At times, a parallel love track brings a twist in the story which helps move the story. Says actor Kushal Tandon, "Virat and Manvi's is a cute love story. Their constant banter and jokes bring an element of freshness to the story. So it is easier for younger audiences to connect to them."
Whether it is a bahu crying bucketful of tears, or a wicked villain scheming against the hero, Indian audiences take everything to their heart and empathize with the lead actors. Says Siddharth Shukla, "The entire feeling of being in love is a very nice feeling. People relate to the characters and start believing in the power of love, which is why I think love tracks work well."
Well, young or old, love does have a hand in moving people and storylines of daily soaps. It would be interesting to see how much TRPs these current love tracks manage to garner though!
