Your posts are always amazing Eva, but this is definitely one of your best. :)
I'm one of those people, as you know, who's still hung up on Gurmeet as Ram...actually, I wouldn't say hung up since I've long since accepted Gurmeet as Gurmeet and not as any of his characters, but sometimes I do feel that ache in my chest that Ramayan is over, despite it being four years. That's just the divinity and magic of that show which has won the heart of many religious and non-religious people too.
What actually made me fall in Gurmeet's role as Yash is that after Ramayan, I could not see Gurmeet in a father's role till now. Of course, Maan did have baby Khurana in the end of GHSP, but it was for only a short moment and we could not see any sweet scenes of him taking care of the babyš³, but during the end of Ramayan, we saw Gurmeet as Ram finally meeting his long-separated twin sons, Luv and Kush, and I just loved every single scene of Ram's with Luv and Kush, whether it be his battles with them, realizing they are his sons, sharing in their sorrow after Sita leaves the earth, etc because that fatherly affection Gurmeet displays onscreen is so natural and sweet. Ram did not have many scenes with LuvKush in Ramayan, but I treasured every single one we did have, and after that I craved to see Gurmeet as a father again. It was sweet in PPAW to see him taking care of small children, but it wasn't the same, and GHSP was more a love story than a parent-child story, so as sweet as it was, it did not fulfill my craving to see Gurmeet as a dad. But now in Punar Vivah, almost every episode has Gurmeet being affectionate towards Payal, Palak, or Ansh, and it's like a dream come true for me.š I sooo love seeing his daddy moments and I almost cried when he won the race for Ansh, it was just what I was hoping to see.āŗļø
Anyway, I think GC is the best in deciding what kind of roles to play. He's not the type of person to do repetitive roles, and after playing one of Hindus' most beloved Gods, a rich business tycoon, and now a father with a tragic past, we cannot possibly accuse him of doing dull roles.š He's a very versatile actor and most importantly, he has respect for ALL his roles, which I really really admire in him. Today, when actors are asked what roles are their favorite, many of them choose the one which gave them most fame without any regard for fans' feelings, but Gurmeet never chooses between Ram, Maan, or Yash. He knows he has diehard fans from all three of his popular shows, and he knows that he would hurt a portion of his fans exceedingly by choosing a favorite. Not just that, he himself loves all three roles equally in my opinion, because he's gotten attached to all of them and met some great people in his co-stars from Ramayan, GHSP, and PV. In fact, Gurmeet even reminsces about Mayavi from time to time, the South Indian show he did before Ramayan.
Gurmeet is truly one of the very few decent actors in the television industry. I don't care anymore what roles he does in the future, because I know he'll always do the very best.š
